Baby Shower Invitation Question

I just received a baby shower invitation from my husband's sister sister-in-law. I have no idea who the shower is for. In other words, I have never met the person the shower is for. The shower is on Oct. 6th. I cannot attend because I am working. Do I need to send a gift?
