2 different members received phone callers posing as the IRS. The first one about a week ago claims she owes money and to send it immediately. She hung up.
The other phone call is now offering to send money and asking for personal information.
You may have to paste my link in your browser. They are getting aggressive and just warn friends and families. When the caller ID says IRS, it is unsettling.

One news report I heard was that IRS has stated that they will contact you by MAIL, NOT by phone.

Unless it is someone I know, I never answer either landline or cell. So any scam calls would go to voice mail if they would have the nerve to leave a message. I have not received any mesages yet. Caller ID is my friend.

I, too, will never answer calls I don't know and if not local, for sure not. I have a cell phone, no landline, I got tricked into a local call that was on politics, told them this was a cell and costing me minutes so right away got rid of them. Do not call list doesn't work for me. I always think it there's anything important, they can tell me on voicemail. The last time I answered a call like this was when someone was telling me how important it was to know that my computer was crashing, I hung up and it never crashed!!! Such scams!

I do taxes for everyone in my family and over the years any additional questions the IRS may have has been via mail and notification was assigned a CP Notice number.
I've had 2 such calls this summer go to my voicemail - both from very heavily accented middle eastern sounding men I could just barely understand saying I owed the IRS back taxes and I must, upon receiving this message call and take care of it or the IRS would take action and come to my door to collect. Had to laugh, no one's come yet and guessing even if the IRS were to make calls they'd not be using such heavily accented people no one could understand!

Thanks for the heads up, Yahooey! It's important info and bears repeating. I keep reminding my mom to never ever give out personal information or even confirm any personal information on the phone or via e-mail until she speaks to me.

Its good to warn people thanks.
We have caller ID and an answering machine. We do not answer any calls except family and friends or if we are expecting a business or Dr call back.
Everyone else can leave a message.
I have found when nuisance calls call a few times they finally give up once we don't answer the phone. Problem solved!

I rec'd a telephone call about a month ago from an "IRS agent." They called and asked for DH and then went on to tell me that my DH and I have filed fraudulent returns for the past 4 years and owed a couple thousand dollars. He was carrying on about how the authorities were going to be at my house in 30 minutes to get me and that all my bank accounts were being closed, my house was going to be "lined," my cars were going to be taken.
When he was done he asked me if I wanted to say anything and I started to laugh, told him I know the IRS contacts by mail and I know this isn't how things work. He became really angry and told me this was no joke and I told him before his next scamming phone call he might want to learn that a house has a lien put on it, not a line. I hung up on him.
They called back again that night and asked for DH. When I told him he had already called trying to scam me earlier, he started to yell at me that he needed to talk to my DH immediately. I just said nope, I don't think so and hung up on him.
That was the last call we got.

I saw that on local news. I can honestly say that I have no sympathy whatsoever for anyone who would fall for such obvious scam. IRS doesn't and never has and never would contact people by phone. Even if you got such a call, who would even speak the person? Wouldn't you just say "so send me a letter" and hang up? I live in muli unit condo and last week, a young man, nicely dresssed in a suit with clip board, knocked on my door and asked to see my electrical bill so he could "ensure" that I was receiving the utility reductions that the "O administration" put into place. Obviously it was a scam of some type or an attempt, I just told him to get the (*&-* away from my door but I'm sure there were people in the building who politely listened to his pitch and invited him and showed him their electricity bills. And if something bad happens.....they deserve it.
