@Kachina624      Thanks for the tip!     The lock on my PO Box is so bad, I have to carry a pliers to open it.

I complained to the post office....and they told me it would be $40 to put a new lock on.     di

It must depend on the bank. I just had to replace my card and wasn't charged for it.

Re: BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE OR STANDARD PROCEDURE?

I just replaced my husband's card earlier this month because it was spliting apart in layers.  No fee.

Re: BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE OR STANDARD PROCEDURE?

I've had that problem with my debit  card, too.  It works fine at the drive-thru window at the bank, but sometimes is a problem at the check-out at the supermarket.  Very embarrassing, but will work after a couple of tries.

Haven't thought about replacing it.

@Desertdi

Have you tried WD-40? I say this because my aunt past last year and we were having the hardest time getting in and out of her rusty locked mail box, with a key. My brother put WD-40 on the lock and it works perfectly fine now.

@icezeus      Yeah....it crossed my mind.    But, the box is not my property, and the fee for "tampering" with it might cost a LOT MORE!    I keep thinking that there HAS to be a way of negotiating this.   di

Re: BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE OR STANDARD PROCEDURE?

Class action lawsuit????  You've got too much time on your hands.

I've never lost a card so I have no idea what's going on.  But I do know this.  Don't like it, vote with your feet.  There are a gazillion credit card issuers.  Find one that you do like and apply for a card there.  If you have a good credit rating you'll probably get a new card from a new issuer no problem.
