anhingas are a type of water bird we have here in florida. rather large - bigger than a duck.we live right next to a hospital and usually by the time an ambulance gets to here they can turn off their siren but occasionally they don't for various reasons. We also sit on a small lake that has a lot of fish so we have a lot of birds who fish there. today several ambulances just went screaming down the street - sirens blaring - it was quite a racket - followed by 2 helicoptors right after each other. the sirens typically scare the anhingas out of the water and up into the trees where they really teeter since the trees are still very small , then the helicoptors scare them back into the water. today - siren , up into the trees - coptor , back in the water , siren , up into the trees followed by coptor , back into the water followed by siren and now the poor anhinga is trying to hide under a bush in the back yard.Poor guy - i hope this is over for his sake.
