A couple of weeks ago, everyone was pitching a fit because QVC was laying off 200 workers and moving some jobs overseas.  Small potatoes, it would appear.  So what do you think of this from the Wall Street Journal?

I read the whole article in the WSJ and it makes sense. The door to door way of sales doesn't work in the US any longer yet it's popular and successful in the UK and other countries; the Asian market has not been tapped so AVON sees great opportunity there.

Remember, the company has split, so there's a US division and a Euro division; the Euro division is the one setting up headquarters in the UK. Different needs, different focus, different markets.

One thing the article did not mention is what jobs are being eliminated: Management? Factory? Salespeople? Admin? Since product for the US will still be made, sales will still continue so perhaps these employees will be pulled into the US Avon.

I'm sorry to hear that.  The Avon business has certainly changed since I was a rep in the 1980s.  I have a coworker who has been selling Avon for more than 30 years.  She leaves a book in my work mailbox at least every two weeks and I love browsing it.  Some of their products are superior to those I pay 5x more for.    I was buying the powder foundation from IT and also from Laura Geller.  Both of those were good products, but the price was very high and the products ran out quickly.  I started buying Avon's cream to powder foundation and I like it better, plus it's a fraction of the cost of the others.  Mascara, too, as well as lipgloss and nail polish.  Anyone who hasn't tried Avon in a while should give it a closer look.

Their powder foundation is 1/3 what BM sells it for.  I am sad they can't leave their headquarters here.   Speaking of Headquarters.  Carls Jr / Hardy's is moving from CA to TN for tax advantage.  Too bad CA can't see the damage they are doing.

Avon has some good products.  I like their hand cream in the blue and white tube better than anything else I've ever tried.  I usually order multiples when it's on sale.  Their foot therapy cream is also excellent.

I like their products too and have ordered a few online.  But I never see a representative or the campaign books.

I agree. They're good.  I think people forget to check Avon's products.

@Kachina624

I listen to my local newsradio station on the way to work in the morning and heard this announced the other day.  I was shocked.  They didn't mention the number of jobs that would be sacrificed here (USA) because of the move - just the move.

I am very sorry for the employees
