I have RA and Sjogren's Disease, severe digestive issues, and who knows what else. My second oldest daughter has finally been diagnosed with Lyme Disease after years of testing negative and, therefore, getting no treatment, which she is finally getting now with doxycycline. Because it takes a long time to die with autoimmune diseases, little attention is paid to them, despite the fact that they literally take away any chance of living a normal, active life and they are incurable.

No one cares about them and doctors know nothing about them. One has to take the bull by the horns on one's own and hope for the best. You cannot get disability for most of them because they are attributed to "hypochondria" or other emotional disorders, like "depression."

You're better off getting cancer or any other of the five top illnesses because that's all doctors know or care about.

I hope your brother improves and the others that you mentioned. Some do.

Your statement regarding cancer is an insult to everyone touched by this insidious disease! In no way do auto immune diseases compare to cancer! I don't need to read a volume of diseases your friends/family have to form this opinion. Having just spent a year with someone who had Stage 4 neck/throat cancer, they would have gotten on their knees and begged for RA or an auto immune disorder!

You obviously don't know how to read. I never said cancer was not worse. I said it was more easily diagnosed and treated, and often cured.

I also pointed out how much suffering goes on from other diseases, which is also the truth.

I have suffered my own losses from cancer. I don't need a lecture from you or anyone else about the horrors of this disease.

It is beginning to seem like a contest on this thread as to which is worse...cancer or an auto-immune disease. I have suffered from both and it depends far more on a case by case basis. Stage 4 cancer can kill in weeks but some auto-immune diseases can also devastate someone's life.

That is all I was trying to say. Thank you SoftRaindrops.

You've had experience with both. I hope you are doing well.

Thinking of you, Ford. Yes, considering I was diagnosed very young, I never expected to live this long. Like yourself, I have weathered the storm. I hope you and your family have a very healthy and joyous holiday season. Please take care of yourself....

If someone doesn't agree with your point of view, they are "bent on starting something...."

And back to you SoftRaindrops, back to you! {#emotions_dlg.wub} You are one of the kindest and most intelligent posters on this BB. And you don't deliberately misread things just so you can attack people. That is appreciated by many more than just me.

Most of us try. That's why I stay. But sometimes I get sick of it too.

Ford, what you said was, and I quote:

"You're better off getting cancer or any other of the five top illnesses because that's all doctors know or care about."

I disagree with you on your general premise, advising others that they are better off getting cancer... for any reason.
