Does anyone own an Australian Shepherd dog? I actually never heard of this breed until recently when my nephew rescued a beautiful 2 year old named Reese. My whole family fell in love with her! She is so cute and gentle. She was actually in the abandoned/abused category where he rescued her and it breaks my heart to think of anyone hurting her! My nephew lives out of state so my sister bought an aussie pup named Nike and she is a hoot! She is so playful and cute. Busy, busy, busy! I love when she comes over. I would love to get one myself but right now it's me and my 86 year old mom who walks with a cane and I work full time so I just can't do it right now. I do enjoy though when the "girls" come to visit. Recently my nephew's dog and her "cousin" met for the first time and the little pup was so excited! Reese tolerated her and sort of played with her but I think she thought "settle down little girl!". Well thanks for listening and I would like to hear if anyone else has an Australian shepherd!

I have had two in my day, and know lots of people that have them. They are wonderful dogs. They have a lot of energy, but in my experience that they are loving, smart, want to please and easily trained. The are very in tune to their person. I highly recommend them.

Good luck!

I have one right now and have had 2 others. They're very unique dogs and probably my favorite breed. They're very active and great for an active family...need lots of exercise and mental stimulation too. If you don't give them something to do, they'll think of something and you probably won't like it. They're also very smart and can figure out how to open doors and cabinets by watching you do it. They're loyal and eager to please which makes them easy to train. Not good with young children as they'll try to herd them, same with cats. They also come in a miniature size which is currently not recognized by the AKC. Their organization is trying to get them recognized as "American shepherds." They are so cute! By the way, there is an excellent up-to-date national listing of Aussies that are up for adoption. They do a great job on this website....http://aussierescue.leepfrog.com/purebreds/purebreds_mal1.html

My friend has the miniature and she (the dog) is adorable. She's such a great size. She 12 now and isn't overly active and never has been. Just a great dog. The full sizes are also wonderful dogs, though active and need a lot of exercise. Good tempermant though.

I had a rescued mini that died about a year ago of a ruptured gallbladder. She was sweet, beautiful and the smartest dog I ever had. It was like being with a person because she seemed to understand everything said to her. She was somewhat of a couch potato.
