At Least They Like Our Music!

In the past half hour I saw a string of commercials that used very familiar background music.

"With A Girl Like You" by the Troggs for dog food.

"Wouldn't It Be Nice" by the Beach Boys for insurance (?)

"Rikki Tikki Tavi" by Donovan for bourbon

"Tiny Dancer" by Elton John for prescription meds

Considering that our demographic is virtually dismissed and not factored when figuring TV ratings and advertising budgets they certainly love our music!

Strangely enough the places you never hear any of our music is in the background of Medicare supplement ads or guaranteed life insurance ads.  Practically the only times we seem to be targeted in advertising.

I guess that being ignored can have it's benefits....

Crank the bass and throw on some Stones and rub in the Ben Gay and party like it's 1968!

I too have noticed my favorite music in many commercials.

I have to say it makes the commercial a lot more tolerable.

@781Florist , hey, fun.  In that vein, have you caught the current "Cascade" dishwashing commercial?   "Leaving Nothing Behind Since 1955"?

Shows families over different decades, cooking, eating, and of course, WASHING their dishes.

All to the background of  "Little Bitty Pretty One"--  "Mmm-mmm-mmm-mmm-mmm-mmM"!

Anybody remember jello 'salad':

Down through the decades, everyone's supposed to be lovingly gazing at their newly Cascade-washed dishware:

Love the retro kitchens they show.

I think he's supposed to be the "contemporary" guy, but he's still mesmerized by his spotless glass:

all with "Little Bitty Pretty One"  bopping along behind the images.

I guess it's sort of rhythm-and-blues, or rock/ pop genre, slightly pre-dating even the Boom generation, but in the ballpark of wonderful post World War II tunes we all recognize when we hear them.

It's easy to google "Leaving Nothing Behind Since 1955" and escape to a sweeter world....

I listened to "Fox On The Run" this morning by Sweet a 1970's tune.

First heard "With a Girl Like You" in the movie "Pirate Radio," which has been on cable lately.  The commercial with the dog is sweet.  Love when they use old songs in ads.

Re: At Least They Like Our Music!

I remember when I was young, 'big band' music in a few commercials. I noticed in prescription drug commercials there is music from the 70s. It's all about the advertisers' target audience. I guess I've reached the golden years where music from my heyday is featured in commercials for geriatrics 😁

This made me think about my nephews who are about 50. In 5 to 10 years, will they be watching commercials for Prevagen and Neuriva with songs from Michael Jackson and Madonna?
