OP, because there are ignorant people in the world and they think that way (which makes them ignorant).

I went to a talk where the speaker was in his late 80's. He had a female assistant in her mid to late 20's.
A gal that was at my table said "Well, we all know what that is about, she must get very well paid to give him s*xual pleasure". I was speechless. She didn't know the speaker or the young assistant at all.
I never thought anything of the sort - nor did the team come across as romantic lovers.
I know the woman who made the remark has never had a beau, boyfriend, lover, or ever been married. She's 58 and doesn't need to be thinking such things.
You know, most of us have things run through our mind but quickly think oh that is terrible of me to think that. Admit it. Generalizations and stereotypes we've heard all our lives. But is it goes no farther, doesn't cross your lips or you don't mention it or think about it again, that's what we need to do. Sometimes we can't help our thoughts, but we can help our actions.
When we stop thinking we know what others are thinking and then acting on that is when we start to be kinder and accept each person for who they are: not their race, age, income, education, etc. Take each person as an individual.

And here I thought it was just me, "a dirty old man". I thought I had/have a "grasp of the world", but guess "folks always", and myself you see as presumptuous.
Also did not know 58 was the magic age I became this "dirty old man". =^..^=

Now you have a lot to live up to!

I never assume when it comes to people. I just hope for the best. I was brought up to be positive and give everyone the benefit of the doubt when it came to character and behavior. Discrimination of any kind was forbidden and as my father often said... Put people first and believe in them and you will have a happy life.
