2000survivor -
Congratulations on you getting that job! I'm sure you are so relieved! Even though the income is much less, it sounds like you have a great attitude on making the income work for you. That is all we can do "these days" to make things work for us on less money.
I accepted a long time ago that I have no control over this job market and the drastic changes in wages especially if we have been working for years and invested all that time to achieve salaries that we earned and can live on. I still have "those days" where I get angry and a little bitter over this fact.
As far as my last interview, I never heard back from them and, as expected, no rejection letter or email. I dropped my salary significantly in my stated salary range, but I guess it wasn't low enough for them. I also noticed that the one interviewer kind of made a face when I stated that it took me a half hour to get there. I don't think a half hour is a long commute at all. My gosh, my retail job took me 45 minutes to get there each way. That's another thing that employers are demanding that you live right next door to where they are located. LOL! However, one good thing is I received a call yesterday for an interview for tomorrow for another job that I applied to, so I will see how this one goes.

LeoGirl--I'm sending all my thoughts and prayers your way and I hope that a job offer is coming your way. My heart goes out to anyone who is unemployed right now.

2000Survivor you sound WAY overqualified for the job BUT I look at it this way...It is a FOOT in the door to a Hospital and I am thinking once they see you in action..see your work experience in action it will be helpful.
With your foot in the door you can apply for many internal postings that come up..
While granted I doubt the Unit Clerk's make a fraction of what an Nursing Home Administrator does ( do you have a MPA?) ..but I think it is money coming in..and you have that foot in the door.
I don't know where you live but I would think a LPN even without using it/experience..many would of snatched you up...and most places have their own training/orientation and also privileging..and competency. You may not of given meds in years but it is not something you forget!
Keep us posted on how you like the job!!! I have dealt for the last five years with my hubby in/out of the hospital and would of LOVED an experienced womanof 61 answering the phones when I called to snotty young girl chewing her gum and blowing me off.

I do believe that employers are hiring/promoting from within. Look at it this way: They might receive thousands of applications every week, and it takes time to read each one. So, it seems as though it would benefit the employer to hire applicants for lower level positions, then promote upward when they see a highly qualified potential employee for upper level jobs. Makes sense to me. Sort of a trial at a lower pay. Saves them a lot of time and money. Lots of good luck to you. Do the best you can, and be extremely helpful, volunteering for whatever needs to be done.

Okay everyone... and I can't believe I'm about to type these words but here it goes... I received a job offer today! My interview the other day went surprisingly well and I got the call and offer today which I accepted. It's an office position full-time with bennies. I'm a little nervous since it's a little different from the type of work I'm used to and there are a few computer programs which they use which I'm not familiar with, however, they said they had no problem with me learning it. I actually picked up some tutorials and will familiarize myself prior to my start date which isn't for another week. I want to thank all of you on here for your kind words of support and especially those prayers! You have no idea how each one of you helped ease my mind and fears on some of those very long days by just reading your posts. Cyber hugs to all and I will continue to pray and hope that everyone looking for employment will find it soon!

That's wonderful news, LeoGrl. You've had a long, hard struggle and let's hope things just keep getting better and better for you. Long term unemployment is so discouraging and many people don't understand how hard it can be to find a job.
