I use bleach for mold, mildew , fungus. Don't have much of that problem in Tx. too dry . At least in my part of Tx. not near any bodies of water and rains once in a blue moon

The thing about using a citric acid solution as a disinfectant is it must be left wet on the treated area for a minimum of 5 minutes in order for it to kill some of the germs. This is also true for other types of disinfecting products. You can't just spray them on and wipe it off right away. It's got to sit wet for a period of time. Same goes for those wipe type products. As soon as the surface is dry, which is usually less than 5 minutes, then the disinfecting stops and you need to reapply...sometimes several times around.

I would not rely on it to get rid of mold or mildew. I would use bleach.

Citric acid can kill fungi, including molds, but it has a very weak effect and came in last of the acids tested in this recent study for killing molds.* Chlorine bleach is much, much more effective and works much more quickly. Vinegar is another alternative cleaner that kills some molds but chlorine bleach kills more quickly and kills much more. Alcohol can also be used as a disinfectant. Citric acid is excellent for dissolving soap scum. An interesting thing about citric acid powder is that is derived from a process that uses Aspergillis niger, a black mold.
