So sad to know that her suicide was by gun and that Ashley found her.

I read in People magazine that Naomi was abused at the age of 3 by her uncle.  That poor woman went through so much in her life time.  May she finally rest in peace.

I  would have thought a drug overdose would be what she would choose... shooting yourself is so awful.. painful... can not imagine the state of sadness and desperation  she must have been in....

It could be that she tried to overdose, but because it wasn't immediate she choose to shoot herself.

The saddest part of it all is, she knew her daughter was there and would most likely be the one to find her.

That gives me the chills.

@BoopOMatic  They could have chosen any reporter they trusted.  Maybe they already had a good relationship with Sawyer.

@Lucky Charm   I personally feel mostly anger at those who choose to kill themselves... It is a very selfish choice when you have close family like she did that have to clean up the mess....

This.  Ashely and Naomi had a very contentious relationship.  Ashely had/has lots of deep anger and resentment towards her mother for what Ashely believes was a terrible childhood.  She believes Naomi's singular pursuit of her own desires at the cost of her daughter's well-being is something she can't get past.  She has stated this in her book.  So I find that Naomi not waiting till she was all alone to commit suicide telling. What it truly tells, I"m not sure.  Because even tho Naomi was in a state of deep despair, her doing it (and so quickly, between the time it took Ashely to say I'll be right back, I'm going to get your friend) when she knew Ashely would be there to find her..........I don't know.

They say that suicide is horrible for the victim, of course, but also because it shifts the pain from their selves to the ones left behind.  Now Ashley has to live with the trauma of finding her, and being there when Naomi did it.

That's not fair or compassionate, @SeaMaiden 

People afflicted with mental illness don't think the same way as a healthy person does.  They don't have the same rationale as you or me. They aren't planning for what comes next.  They just want the pain and agony to stop.

 Naomi has had guns for many years. When I heard about her I immediately assumed she had shot herself, but as she is so beautiful, I thought perhaps not; the theory goes that women don't usually shoot themselves.

 She was very familiar with firearms.

 Would Ashley have done this interview if Naomi had overdosed?

 I doubt it.

 And @SeaMaiden I couldn't agree with you more. What a horrible thing to do to her family.
