I had bass burgundy colored loafers. I think we called them Weejuns...may only have been a southern term.

Didn't have those but did wear saddle shoes. Think I got those from a Red Goose shoe store--and then got a golden egg with stuff inside. Anyone remember that?

There was a time when black, suede penny loafers were a thing.  A requirement for 8th grade.

@Shanus , they were cordovan. The Q was selling something recently, I think maybe a handbag, in cordovan; it was funny listening to the hosts trying to say the word. Guessing cordovan isn't much of a thing as it was in the 60s!

I wanted a pair of loafers so bad, but Mom said no.  I asked Mamaw to buy them for me for Christmas and she did, not knowing Mom had said no.  I proudly wore them home from the store, walked into the house with a huge smile so proud of my new loafers, stepped off the entry rug and slid across the waxed tile living room floor and landed in the kitchen!  

Moms immediate response was "no meant NO!" and the shoes were boxed up and returned to the store the next day.  That incident did not stop me from wanting penny loafers all thru school, but I never asked for them again.  As an adult, I have never wanted them!  I could buy them in many styles and colors now, but there's no desire to have/wear loafers at this stage of my life.

Yes I did, I switched between pennies and dimes depending on my mood.

Weejuns in high school. Also the Weejuns with the tassel.

Grade school were the ugly brown oxfords for our uniforms. Nothing else was allowed.👎

I thought the same thing!  You leave home from under your parents rules and the first thing you do is buy loafers???

Tell me, @Kachina624 , that you really did something a bit more daring.....
