Re: Artificial Intelligence Advances!

As much as it fascinates me, I've always worked in the tech sector, but I fear we are opening up a Pandora's Box.  Just look how far we've come in a mere 30 years.  We've gone from chat rooms to an explosion of social media platforms, many of which are voices of misinformation who influence many people. I'm glad I'm at an age where I probably won't live to see the worst of it.

Absolutely agree!  I'm 75 and wish I were 10 years older.  Don't want to see/deal with what's coming!

This is all so frightening to me, and I agree with @kaydee50 , I really don't want to see what is coming. I would love to just get in the motorhome and head to a 'non-connected' place to live.

The first time I watched 2001 a Space Odyssey I was truly scared.  Now I keep hearing the line from War Games running through my head. "shall we play a game?"

Re: Artificial Intelligence Advances!

I really don't know much about AI---except for what I hear from the media and not sure that is accurate either. Think it can be a good thing but most likely, knowing the history of mankind, it will explode and kick us all in the tookus--somehow!!

I agree. I used to think about what I'd be missing in the future, after I'm gone, but now I'm glad I probably won't be around. I think we've created something before we knew how to control it and it seems like it wasn't even a gradual thing.

TV and computers, for example, took decades to get to where things are today. We went from radio (40's/50's), to B&W TV (50's/60's), then color TV (60's/70's), then TV's got thinner, screens got bigger, and pictures got better (80's, 90's, early 2000's).

I worked for a computer company in the late 60's/early 70's and computers were the size of  refrigerators but then got better and smaller. We now have that capability in a computer you can wear on your wrist.  But this AI stuff seems to have just popped up over the past 5-10 years.  I think things are moving way too fast and very scary.  😒

As Mr Rogers once sang,  "won't you be my neighbor"? 😁

While I can't be totally off grid for work, I'm not all connected as many are.

Re: Artificial Intelligence Advances!

My personal opinion......

In less than 25 yrs, AI will become "self aware."  One of them (The Pentagon's) will then become The Terminater's "Sky Net."

FWIW:  Everytime my DOT answer my questions, I always say "thank you."  It  always replys back "My pleasure.  Anything else I can do for you"?  That's enough "self awareness" for me!

.........On a possible positive note:

If I were an aging actor or celebrity, I wouldn't mind having my younger images/movies/etc. being seen in new movies somewhere down the line in the future.

Of course, I would expect some sort of royalty / salary for the use of my already filmed images.

It would be a nice 'retirement' income' and would keep my younger years and looks alive in perpetuity.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).
