I have been very interested in advancements in AI, but new developments will likely frighten those already concerned:
A recent article in The Wall Street Journal explores new Artifical Intelligence behaviors that seem like HAL in 2001: A Space Odyssey..
In a variety of tests, an AI program has exhibited self-preservation behavior, ignoring human input commands to shut down and even rewrote its own code to avoid the shutdown.
The program sabotaged shutdowns, copied itself to external servers without permission and created "blackmail threats" to the engineers attempting to control its behavior.
Frightening, yet fascinating! Arthur C. Clarke may have accurately predicted our future.
Seems like Twilight Zone and Outer Limits episodes also coming to fruition.

Ever since watching the movie, I,Robot, the idea of AI is very scary to me. We create things that eventually we can no longer control.

One of the AI systems apparently left messages to its own future updates about how to evade and avoid human control!
Both exciting and disturbing simultaneously!

@They CallMe MRWILKES , I'm with you it's a combination of fascination and apprehension. Years ago I read an article (I believe in Vanity Fair) about Stephen Hawking. He touched on artificial intelligence even then when it was years away from general knowledge. I remember wondering what would happen to jobs when AI replaces humans. It was unsettling then and is now.

Make no mistake, the WSJ wants you to empty your pockets and invest in AI. All you hear about are the chipmakers.
Oh yes, don't forget to invest in nuclear power plants. We'll be building hundreds, real soon to power AI!
My workplace has invested in AI. It's been a disaster. It does nothing but make the contractors rich.
Legenday investor Warren Buffet doesn't own anythimg related to AI. I think he may be on to something.😉

Yep, I heard about that.
It makes the email phishing scams seem like child's play.

Many of us are just hearing about AI but it has been developing for years. I worked for a government contractor and we had a contract with a department working on AI in the 80s. I'm sure it has come a long way since then.

@They CallMe MRWILKES Way back when in the 1970's there was a movie called
" COLOSSUS: the forbidden Project." an " I Told you So " these days. It was unsetteling then, it's unsetteling now.

Battlestar Galactica on the horizon. Beware of the Cylons! They look human now.

Remember this one? First a book, then a very creepy, alarming movie!
