Wonder if this is the norm elsewhere... as of Dec 1, we now have to dial our area code with the 7-digit phone number to place a local call. It's a pain! I had to change all the saved numbers in my phone's contact list. It's like calling long distance to dial someone across the street.

Is this happening all over the USA?

Yes. The area code is now required in southern New Mexico.

We have been doing that for many, many years in New Jersey.

@tototwo  Don't know where you live but this has been quite common for a number of years in many areas.

We've been doing that for several years.  You get used to it.

In my area we have had to do this for local calls for a long time.  You get used to it.

Oklahoma has been using area code for local calls in 2011 (at least in my area).

We've been doing this for many years in South Carolina/Georgia (I live in a border area). I don't even think about it anymore.

Yes, doing this for a long time as well here in PA.
