Re: Are you still using up an item you purchased from a ""warehouse"" club years ago?

ME TOO! I don't know what I was thinking when I purchased the double giant package of Qtips....I'm a washcloth/soap/shower kind of ear cleaner. I've put them in a pretty container on my vanity, so I'm finding more & more uses....but I'm sure they will see 2015.

Nope, we never buy stuff that we will take us umteen years to use. Bulk? Yes. Over bulk? No.

No. Hate those clubs. I won't pay a membership fee to shop anywhere and don't buy in bulk. I do better with sales and coupons at my grocery store and drug store.

Many of these clubs sell sizes that are not available(ounces on some)in regular retail. Coupons/sale days most of the time for us do not equal saving the same amount as buying in larger sizes. That is just us.

Love Costco. But we don't over-buy.

One thing, however, that I do have from years ago is this one box of Band-Aids. In all fairness, however, I have thrown some other band-aids into the box over the years. I am a total klutz, so you'd think I would have gone through them all. But it was a box of different sizes and I always use just one or two sizes the most. Still have the box, with all kinds of bandages in it, though.

I have no idea how long I've had that box of Band-Aids but I'd say over 10 years for sure.

I think you may have bought into the misconceptions of the warehouse stores.

Paying the fee isn't an issue when one or two trips will easily cover the cost, and even if I were buying just for myself, the idea of "bulk" isn't what you think it is. I don't buy the big boxes of whatever in the frozen section because of space, or the huge boxes of tomatoes that will have to be thrown out, but I do have the room for paper goods, and Sam's Club and Costco produce amazing store brands. Before my Costco membership expired the other day, I got a bunch of liquid dish soap. Not only is it dirt cheap, but it lasts me for ages. The prices are also incomparable on garbage bags (both types), Clorox wipes, furniture polish, spices, cheese, laundry detergent, batteries, office supplies, lint rollers, baby wipes, feminine products, toothbrush heads...etc. Since it costs at least 75 cents per mile to drive the average car, I can get a lot in one fell swoop.

Then there are the serious bargains. Recently I needed to upgrade my digital camera, and Sam's Club not only beat everyone else online, they even beat Costco with a better camera for $50 less than something remotely comparable. Years ago, I was looking for a particular Samsung tv, and the only place that had them, and at a terrific price, was Costco. Ditto for a DVD player at Sam's.

You also have the advantage of not needing a membership to buy wine or use the pharmacy. In most states anyway.

Even if I were only buying for myself, I'd still spring for at least one warehouse membership.

A couple of months ago, I needed to buy bandaids. I was at Costco and wound up buying a three-pack in plastic containers --- totaling around 150 bandaids. I rarely use them --- so I will have these for a long time. What was I thinking???

I like using less packaging with larger items. Another reason to use warehouse products.
