Re: Are you passive or not? Would this bug you?

I had a neighbor that would park cars in front of my house and not move them for days. Finally I caught the kid who drives the car and asked him why he parked in front of my house when he has just as much space to park in front of his house. I said I would understand if they had guests who needed to park in front of my house. He smarted off but he didn't park there anymore. So yes, it bothers me. In California, if a car is parked on the street with expired license, it can be towed to a storage yard. Also if a vehicle is believed to be abandoned, a ten day notice is placed on the car and if it is not moved, can be towed and sold at auction.

There is also a record of the car being registered. The police just have to run the vin. The plate isn't the only way to know if the car is legal.

You can't steal somebody's plate, either. Why do you think you can do this? I guess I don't understand. You would get arrested where I live.

You would have to get caught first. The OP complained about her beighbrs blocking her mailbox and her husbands unwillingness to confront them. Another poster mentioned removing tags. I then mentioned hearing people doing this in order to get the car towed.

If it's parked on a city street without plates, it's illegal, registration or not.

Not that easy. There is procedure to follow. They would run the vin, give notice to the owner even if the plate was expired. They would not just tow a car because somebody stole the plate. People would be running amok, stealing plates and reporting people out of spite or revenge, lol. I can just see it, now. Ha

You're just playing around, aren't you? That's all for me.

shorty2u, my husband would react like your DH does. I would react like you do, so I guess I'm not passive. Those neighbors would give me an ulcer.

If you belong to a Home Owners Association, they may help you.

Me passive? Don't think so Shorty2U.

I can assure you that were my neighbors to try a stunt like that I would be over there as soon as I seen the situation. Now if they didn't want to oblige? Nobody should feel like that can fool with the Federal Government and that is exactly who the USPS represents with the mail.

Would do whatever it took if they didn't willingly comply. Police/Sheriff/State Patrol, whomever it took to convince them they could get some big charges throw against them if they continue to keep the USPS from delivering the mail because of their laziness.

My wife probably wishes I had a teeny/tiny/teeny bit of your husband in me. That however will never happen.

If the neighbor's junk car is truly junky and they don't drive it very often remove the tags then report it as an abandoned car.

Are you serious? Sorry can't tell.

I think she's serious because this actually works.

OK thanks. It sounds to me like vandalism and making a false police report, that's why I asked. I guess I am missing something.

No, you are not. That has to be the worst piece of advice I have read here in a while...

ETA- the stickers indicate whether they are expired not the actual plate ..IF the whole plate is gone there is a chain that has to be followed..They don't just tow willy nilly..

...there is also the possibility of multiple tickets that lead to a boot..Then you have a car with a pretty colored accessory adorning your front yard..

I would suggest a simple, kind conversation.

Why don't you say or do something, you live there too. If you belong to a HOA, take pictures, send a note and to the president. If you live in a municipality, send the photos to them along with a letter.
