There seems to be a certain status associated with having Facebook friends at least in our area, at places of work, etc. DD's job required her to have a professional facebook page and it was expected that she would maintain it. You gained "cred" too where I worked, if you had a plethora of friends on FB. It is a very public way of announcing "I am important." Whether one subscribes to this way of thinking or not, it is true. The teens I worked with also told me that FB is only for the "adults." They now use Twitter to make connections. My FB account established me (my feelings) as a credible person, with a resume and family. Our nieces. nephews and family members keep in touch this way. I am pleased with the way I have implemented Facebook in my life. There are now others, too, including Twitter and Instagram and Google Plus and Pinterest. It is dizzying the array of social media available. Sure keeps the celebrities busy trying to keep everything updated!

A safe way to communicate would be thru an email account specifically set up with a fake name. Just don't sign into Facebook with it because whatever birthday you put in... if not real (and if it was me, I wouldn't want to include the REAL one for identity purposes) it will confuse people. Perhaps even with a fake email address, the birthday gets confusing.

How can you spy on Facebook? People put that information online for others to see. I wouldn't do it, but many do.

The term is actually a "creeper" and yes, I've done it before.

Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit, but Wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad.
