What's wrong with a polite but firm "No thank you" and keep walking?   If someone is extremely persistent, follow up with "Sorry, but I don't have time" and keep your feet moving.  You don't need to stop and chat and they certainly don't want to waste their time on people who aren't interested.

Whether they are paid or volunteers, they have a goal and want to achieve it.   Just keep moving and you'll have no problem .....

@Tinkrbl44  Agree.  I can't imagine giving up my power by hiding from people; if I'm heading into a store, I just keep walking on by.  A negative wave of the hand and move on.  I don't even give a reason.

You have to stand up to people who monopolize your time; if you don't want an essay answer then don't ask the question.

There are a few poison (at least to me) people whom I’ve intentionally removed from my life.

Yes, I avoid them.

151949:  'Don't get me started'...........Extremely Tight hugs and overly loud kisses in someone's ear is a pain (literally).

Sometimes those people just don't care, no matter what we ask/say.

Wearing ear plugs is one option.  Wearing a suit or breast plate of armour isn't.

Wishing you good luck!

Re: Are there people you try to avoid?

I avoid people who talk about themselves all the time or about superficial things, and busy bodies.

I don't mind talking about politics assuming I agree with their cause. I appreciate those who want to change the world for the better. If I don't agree and they continue to harass me, then that's a problem. Also, don't try to convert me to your religion. I'm not that weak minded that I will suddenly change my mind about that.

@Annabellethecat66Really, really good response. Several good responses are here.

I'm done with rude.  I won't answer them and I will not heart them.

Hope you're doing well and not having so much rain!

I am OK @ECBG.  The young woman used to be our waitress, and she really does like us, i am quite sure. She always made it a point to chat with us, and my husband always tips very generously

I just think she is a zealot, she just graduated from college and so she is rather young, still. If she wants to keep friends ,she is going to have to learn to tone it down, a lot

Thank you for asking. BTW ,I love your new pooch

Re: Are there people you try to avoid?

@cherry  My situation is slightly different. I live in the same township where I teach school.  I purposely go grocery shopping in a large grocery store a few towns away from my home.   I do this, not to purposely avoid someone I don't like,  because I want to get in and out of the grocery store in a reasonable time without having to constantly stop shopping to greet or chat with parents or others that I know in town.  In the past, it added quite a bit of extra time to my weekend grocery shopping time.
