I am a huge fan of Vivaldi's Four Seasons...all of it.

I can' t listen to it in my car, though.  It makes me drive too fast.  I get so lost in the music.

My son plays classical guitar...like that too.

@Carmie I love that music too!  Have you seen the old old movie The Four Seasons?  Alan Alda and Carol Burnett and others.  It is one of my all-time favorite movies!

Husband plays classical guitar but his forte is electric and he was in a rock and roll band with professional musicians.  Not as good as the lead, but he can sing and kept up with the guitar playing!  It really was a stretch sometimes though, but good for him!

@Sooner I did play a reed instrument and French horn.  Also took several years of piano.  Nowhere near a classical piano student, just enough to keep my mother paying for the lessons and keeping her happy that I could play.  She was an excellent musician and pianist, very talented.  Suppose that's where my kids got the talent.  Certainly not from me. The child who played trombone also plays classical and electric guitar.

@Nonametoday How lucky to be around all of this!  A friend of ours teaches French Horn and is off somewhere now playing.  I can't remember where, but he is very talented.  It is amazing what we have access to now!

@monicakm Absolutely brag on those you love!  That's a gift to share!  You are a fortunate lady to have them in your life. What a blessing!

No, it wasn't me who bragged on a son because I don't have one!

I've always had Siamese cats, still do. I received my first one from my father for my birthday.

@occasionalrain They are certainly an unusual breed of cat.  Some are scary smart or just scary (ask the neighbor's German Shepard!). We had one seal point and one blue point that were sweet and funny and not a mean bone!

Re: Are You a Classical Music Fan?

No.  Even the mention of the words classical music sends me back to music class in school and being forced to listen to Bach, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, etc.  I zoned out often in that class and believe I learned to sleep with my eyes open.

If we fell asleep in that class, the teacher made us go to the front of the room and sit in a straight back chair facing the class until the record was finished!

Re: Are You a Classical Music Fan?

I like all kinds of music.  Right now, having rented for a while and put most things in storage until I find a house, I am missing my holiday music. "Run, Run Reindeer," especially.

I like opera in the background while cleaning, especially my late mother's favorite, "La Traviata" (Verdi, and "Norma" (Bellini).  Gives a certain energy to dusting and mopping and fluffing pillows.

I discontinued my account with the Q b/c I was unhappy with CS, and it  may be I am starting over as a poster here, as I've re-registered.

OK with me!  Moving house does entail a new start.  I would miss this group very much!

Re: Are You a Classical Music Fan?

[ Edited ]

classical is my favorite music. Specifically:

*composers from the Baroque Period.

*Mozart sonatas especially those written for flute and piano or flute and strings

*French composer Camille Saint-Saens especially Carnival of the Animals

*Claude Debussy-Clair de Lune and La Mer

*Ralph Vaughan Williams particularly The Lark Ascending

*Handel's Water Music and Music for the Royal Fireworks

plus a huge number of piano etudes and nocturnes by Chopin, Debussy, Dvorak

I also love string quartets

Re: Are You a Classical Music Fan?

There was lot of music played at my house.  But all kinds except for jazz.  But my husband was the one that exposed me to classical music.  He grew up with it.  So he was exposed to a lot of composers and different kinds of "classical" music.  I dislike Beethoven  I still do.  Except for his dance symphony.  I love and adore Mozart.  Most people do after they encounter classical music. I'm not a fan of romantic classical music.  One reason why I dislike Beethoven.  But I love Classical period classical music.  Mozart, Haydon, and much earlier composers.  Especially Bach. I love a strong melody.  And those composers deliver.

agree w all of your opinions. Not a Beethoven fan either. My DH loves his crashing loud symphonies. I prefer more refined works- Mozart-yes yes! Call me crazy but I love Renaissance music also, instrumental and choral.

Re: Are You a Classical Music Fan?

I like a variety of music including Classical which I find generally relaxing. Piano, strings, guitar and cello of course.  I like a soft  classical jazz. I hadn't thought of it in years but when I was married my ex hated it.  I had to play it softly where he could not really hear it as he complained.
