What has been your experience?
I just celebrated my 66th birthday. I've been happy throughout the many phases of my life. Now, I am content.

I was happy when I was working. I had a rewarding (if sometimes stressful) job. I own my own home in a nice area. I love living alone (except for a 75 pound elderly black dog). I can stay up until 2 AM reading a book if I want. If I don't want dinner I don't eat it. I often take classes and do volunteer work. There are many things I am curious about. I had two children - my son passed away and my daughter lives in another state - I am the one that moved! I have many friends to go out to lunch, dinner, see a play, etc. Life is good.

Happier? No. But I'm fine. Actually I always liked the stress and hustle of work. I am type A to the max. Always have been! I was VERY fortunate to have a job I love and was good at.
I have no interest in volunteer work either, so don't suggest that. I got very frustrated with that some time ago.

Me, too @Sooner, me too! I miss my job more than anything.

I love being retired and going to bed when I want and getting up when I want, and not having to get outside in the weather to go to work! I use to hate Sunday afternoon/evening, knowing I had to go back to work on Monday, but now I don't! My husband is still working, he said he plans to as long as he is physically able, he is on his 2nd career, he retired from the USAF and after retirement he went to law school and got his law degree and is a praticing attorney for about 17 yrs. now!

There are some people who are never happy no matter what. When they are working all they do is complain about their job and when they retire they complain about that. Some people just can't make the most of anything and at any age they will never be happy. On the other hand - there are folks who always make the most of whatever their situation may be, at all ages, and they always seem content. There will always be negative people and positive people and those in the middle muddling thru. Personally, I am just over being around negative people.

Health and money. If you have those, than yes. At least, that is what I'm seeing. I don't care what studies or polls say; being around the real deal has been far more educating and humbling than I ever though it would be.
Health and money. That's what we are striving as hard as we can to achieve/maintain.

Husband and I are happy being retired. He worked very hard for a long time. In the winter he was in the cold, in the summer he was in the heat. It took its toll. He was in a union and at 59 he went to them and looked at what the numbers would be if he retired. Thankfully he could. Fifty nine and out. I was still working and he would pick up grandchildren and go to the beach for the day! I teased and said something is wrong with this picture. Really so happy for him. We did some traveling but now not even Florida temps us.
