Omigosh, how to choose..I love trees! I'm particularly drawn to knobby, twisted and gnarled ones that are old.

But also

Cherry

Apple

Pear (pretty much any fruit tree)

Oak

Clusters of birch

Huge, old maples

Blue spruce

Redwoods are gorgeous (although I've never seen them in person)

there's so many to choose....

My neighbor has a gorgeous tree, I don't know what it is, it looks somewhat like a maple, but isn't. It grows fairly stright without branching out much, but turns scarlett, fire red and plum in the Fall, absolutely gorgeous!

Today I am giving tours at LUTHER BURBANK HOME AND GARDENS.  He was born April 7, 1849 . California celebrates ARBOR Day from 3/7 to 3/14 in honor of LB.  All other states celebrate one day in  MAY. He was a Botnist and planted a PARADOX WALNUT TREE on the property that is 103 years old.  It is for making furniture, not for the nuts like a regular walnut tree.  He named it, PARADOX for fast growing. The tours start April 1st, until October 31st.  The gardens are beautiful and opened all year long.  The Rose garden is beautiful.  He developed the Shasta Daisy, took 17 years, also the Burbank potato.  Today we call it the russet or Idaho. This he developed in 1873.  Just a little history when I saw ARBOR DAY IN THREAD.

Sounds like LIQUID AMBER.  Used to have one.  Goggle it. They are gorgeous in the fall.

I have a soft spot for the Chinese pistache.  As it transitions to fall color, the leaves can be green, gold, orange and red -- all at the same time.

I've noticed, too, that I have an unfortunate fondness for invasive species.  The purple robe locust I planted was beloved by bees -- a good thing -- but also by borers.  It was removed last year, but little locusts keep appearing all over the yard.  It was hard enough saying goodbye the first time -- now I have to murder all the rogue trees that pop up.

I also love the notorious Russian olive.  She's no beauty, but the scent of her blossoms in the spring makes Albuquerque smell like a candy factory.

My list is longer, so I'll stop with these three.

Gotta give a tip o' the hat to the redbud.  Vibrant blossoms in the spring, then lovely heart-shaped leaves.

I don't have a favorite but I know immediately which I like the least of all trees!   Sweet gum.  It's a beautiful tree for wood, but I have these trees and those awful spikey balls are all over my yard.  Horrible!
