Finding tadpoles

Hi Birding Friends, I wish I could be doing what the little boy in the photo above is doing instead of packing, or as I am doing, stuffing things into the luggage, yet trying to stay under the allowed weight for checked luggage. I had wanted to pick up a few food items, favorite pastries of my brother and daughter, but no room left. I don't have the car today either, so I am also doing laundry. Got the 4th load into the washer and am waiting for the dryer to finish with the towels.

Birdmama, Enjoy your weekend, too bad they don't use the idea of a 3 day weekend all the time. It's supposed to rain at home tomorrow, and that's just fine for me. Just no severe stuff. My brother told me that he thought I'd gotten home early on Monday as the cover was off of my Sequoia. We had used bungee cords to hold it down. It's made to fit that SUV, with a bit of room to spare. The winds had taken it off. I just hope it's not ripped. It cost a pretty penny for sure.

Winifred, I hope your computer things have worked out for you. I'm debating whether to haul both of these laptops home with me. My desktop at home, won't use anything but the on screen keyboard. I don't know what else to do with that issue. I have 3 good keyboards and no use for them, unless someone comes up with a solution as to why that computer won't show words if I use those keyboards.

I may leave this thing, with Windows 8 here, but don't want to hurt my son's feelings by not taking it. Mightstuffit in the armoire under some clothes.

Mattie tears holes in every cat food or cat treat bag she finds. My brother lets her open her own treats. I send her some quite often and he lets her 'decide' which one she wants and how much she wants.

The dryer just sounded it's "I'm finished" sound, so I will post this and start folding.

Have a nice rest of your Friday afternoon and evening, Everyone.

Hi Possummink - I'm just having a regular 2 day weekend this week. I did ask for May 1st as a vacation day. I also asked for May 22nd, since my calendar is starting to fill up with various work group meetings {#emotions_dlg.glare}.

I hope you have an uneventful flight home. We did have some windy weather last week and if the bungee cords on the cover are stretching out, I can see how wind got underneath the cover and went sailing. I take it the cover was near the vehicle?

What kind of desktop do you have at home? Is it an all-in-one touch screen? If you tell me the make and model, maybe I can find some online solutions? That would drive me batty, not being able to use a keyboard.

Hi Birdmama, The desktop computer I have is a Dell. It's about 10 years old, a real workhorse, It's operating system was Windows XP which I loved. I don't know why they have to come up with new systems, instead of just updating the old true blue ones that actually are user friendly.

I am getting ready to close the laptops down and put them in the computer bag that I carry on.

The car cover was near the car, it's a heavy, well made cover. I think I paid over $150.00 to $160.00 for it. It even has 'pockets' for the side mirrors sewn into it. Next time, I'll slam part of it in the door. That should hold it on there. This is the first time it's blown off and I have used it about 4 times. It's usually on there for at least 3-4 months at a time.

I appreciate your offer to see if you can find any on-line help. Have a nice, restful weekend. Smile

Bringing the thread up as we have a crazy poster who spent the night bumping old threads.

Possumink - I was looking around the great world wide web for any instances of dell computers having problems recognizing keyboards or mice. Oh brother, this seemed to be a popular problem for people from 2009 through 2013 (probably more before and after).

The consensus seems to be a 'driver' issue. For the most part, drivers or DLL files are not really that complicated. For example, I have an older HP photosmart printer. I like the printer and when I bought my new computer in 2012, I knew I would need new drivers to make windows 7 be able to communicate with the older printer. I went to HP's website, plugged in my printer name and model and found the drivers and downloaded them to my computer.

Because your dell is running XP and Microsoft discontinued technical support of XP, I fear that the drivers you need won't be available on MSN support.

I just found the online keyboard on my own computer {#emotions_dlg.blink}. I didn't know I had one.

One the one hand, it's good your mouse is working to be able to tap out something using the online keyboard.

There's two ways to get at this since your mouse is working:

This is coming from Microsoft:

To update your keyboard driver

You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may also prevent you from completing this procedure.

1.Open Keyboard in Control Panel.

2.On the Hardware tab, click Properties.

3. On the Driver tab, click Update Driver.

4.Follow the instructions that appear on your screen. You can have Windows search for the driver, or point to the driver's location yourself.

Note

To open Keyboard, click Start, click Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Keyboard.

Update your driver if your keyboard has hot keys that are not working properly. Hot keys are found on newer keyboards and are used to start programs, navigate on the Web, and switch to lower power states.

If you installed windows XP yourself, some guys on the Tech Support Guy forum suggest

Boot from XP CD
2. At the menu, press R to load the Recovery Console.
3. At the command prompt, type this:
copy c:windows
epairsystem c:windowssystem32config
4. Overwrite: Y
