Oh Possum you put a picture of my gorgeous Conrad on here. He is such a gorgeous dog and I love him so. There are very few Scotties out here in Sou Cal - have never regretted the call I got from YAPS - our rescue organization - suggesting I bring him home after I lost my beloved Bailey. He is a sweetie. Do not ask me how he got the name Conrad but that has always been his name and I was not about to change it.

The Farm

Hi Birding Friends, I have been shopping, packing, more shopping and packing. Did sheets and comforter todayfor laundry and will have to catch up to the clothes tomorrow. Still have last minute things to pick up and ship or pack in the luggage.

All three owl nests that I am watching via nest-cams, have babies. The Barred Owl in Indiana had her first owlet hatch early this morning. Her nest is in Indiana. The Great Horned Owl in Montana has 3 owlets that are just about ready to fledge. They are beautiful little ones and are really giving their wings a workout every day.

The Long-eared Owl, also in Montana, has about 4 babies and one or maybe 2 eggs left to hatch. She has a great hunter for her mate. He brings rodent after rodent at night. He flies in about every 20 to 30 minutes of so with a mouse, rat or vole and tried to get Mama to take it. She's been busy with the kids, and he sometimes takes off with the prey in his talons. I don't know what he does with it, maybe sits on a nearby limb and then tries again. She's busy all the time with the owlets, trying to keep them fed and safe. Some Magpies were harassing her yesterday. She 'puffed up' so much, I thought at first glance, there were 2 adult owls in the nest. She's not a tiny owl and could probably eat a magpie by herself. She is a beautiful bird, as I think all Owls are.

Winifred, I saw that photo and thought of Conrad right away. I think Conrad is a fitting name for your pup. Very distinguished, a gentleman, for sure. I am glad you kept that name for him. I love Scotties along with Miniature Schnauzers and Dobermans.

Hope Stripes is being a good boy these days.

Mousie, I guess you are still busy with planting your new arrivals. We used to havehostas, daylilies and peonies shipped in along with trees. We'd get wildlife bundles of trees from the Missouri Department of Conservation. Most camebareroot, but with having a nursery in the family and having worked with trees and allplants most of our lives, they turned out great.

I hope the water restrictions that the Gov.imposedon all of you, don't affect your new plantings too much.

Birdmama, I hope Grayson and your other little feathered ones are doing ok. You were smart to get a Windows 7 operating system when you did. I haven't seen HP advertising 7's but will look into it. I am typing this on the 8 as the 7 has the Long-eared owl nest on it, full screen. I have an osprey nest in Maine that I keep an eye on now and then. She hasn't laid any eggs, yet, but she's on the nest every day. I hope they do nest there. Such beautiful birds.

Puddles, How neat to be having the wrens building outside your window. Hope they have a successful nesting. You will be in Great Britain when those babies hatch though. Happy Birthday to the Queen. She's such a dignified Lady. I love that Royal Family. They have had some very hard times, but have rallied and done well. Love the two princes. Harry is so cool. Wish he'd find a nice young lady like Will did and settle down one of these days.

I guess I'd best stop "yacking" and get this submitted. It's after one am.

Waving to all my Birding Friends.

Check the photo below of the Great Horned Owl. The photographer didn't realize there were 2 owls in the photo till he got back and checked his photos to submit for publishing.

It was only when the photographer looked at this picture later that she spotted this great horned owl had a baby, tucked tightly into the feathers on its tummy. It was taken by wildlife photographer Marina Scarr in Fort De Soto Park, Florida. Picture: MARINA SCARR / CATERS NEWS

Better get something posted as I probably will be offline for a couple days. This irritable pc is on the way out. Staples called last night to tell me the refurbished one I bought is in. They will set it up for me and also transfer my programs over to it - what they can that is. Last time I bought a brand new pc, all the programs would never gransfer over. At any rate I have to take this in about noon - have no clue when they will be done but will not rush them at all.

Stripes was in last night after staying gone all day yesterday. He must have found some cozy place to sleep in as like most cats, he surely loves to sleep. LOL. Other critters are doing fine also. Still a tad worried about Belle, just not sure she feels really good but nothing seems to have interfered with her eating. I agree Conrad is such a great name but must admit I said "SAy what?" when they told me what his name was. Must admit Conrad is a different name for a SCottish Terrier. LOL. I was beginning to wonder why he had slowed down on his eating. I think I may have found the answer. Had a new bag of cat food sitting in the wash room and not yet put in the closed container as it was not empty enough. One of these cats - most likely Miss Blackie as she is good at this - had torn a hole in the bag so the food was dripping out. Saw Conrad and Miss Blackie a couple times hanging out in there and only figured it out this morning. So I had to pick up the bag and tape the hole. Stinkers!!!! Conrad would much prefer cat food.

May rain today - sure hope so. Have a great day everyone.

Freddie - good luck with the new computer. My new AT&T modem arrived in the mail yesterday and I was itching to self-install. The instructions strongly advised to not self install until after 2pm on the day of activation, which is today {#emotions_dlg.thumbup} I doubt I will have any issues.

I forgot to mention last week Friday that I took my sister out for drinks and dinner for her 55th birthday. We're not heavy drinkers, but we did consume a couple of cosmopolitans with our appetizers and dinner at the Olive Garden. It was a nice meal and I ate like a boar hoggus {#emotions_dlg.lol}.

It's a gloomy kind of day here. The bird of the day is the Lammergeier (aka Bearded Vulture)
