Appointments--why is it so hard to keep times running smooth?

Today it was an eye exam that got me upset. My appoint was for 10:45 (they start taking people at 9 am). At 11 am I asked the front desk if things were running late and she had to go ask and find out what was going on. Yes, a person showed up late throwing off everyone.

By 11:10 a woman called me back to do the pre-check. I let her know I was not pleased and instead of treating me like a professional should she got crankier than me. She could have defused me by being nice and explaining all that went on. She didn't.

After she was done she led me to a 2nd waiting area where 3 more were sitting, waiting to see the doctor. I told her that was not ok with me. At this point my appt. was already 35 min. late. She did relent and put me in the doctors chair.

He then came in with an attitude and offered no explanation other that there was an emergency and if I had one I would want to be seen. I then told him, true but I expect that the front desk and other staff should be told of this and let the people know.

My thought is they over-scheduled and others just sit there and take it. Also, when they allow someone who missed their appointment to be seen it just makes everyone else wait.

I'm tired of doctors, eye doctors, hair appointments, you name it--they are bad at making a schedule and keeping it!

Yes, I am finding a new eye doctor--there is one on every block in my city.
