Re: Anyway to avoid a ding on your credit score?

@Mom2Dogs

I don't have anything to worry about as far as my credit score, I'm just that Type A person who wants everything (that I can control) to be it's best.  It's a burden sometimes.

No, it's not a scam.  First, you have to have good credit to qualify (maybe that's changed because it's been decades since I've applied for one and we don't use the one we have for emergencies).

Credit card companies offer this hoping you'll miss a payment or be late with your payment.  They can then charge you interest.  I would guess at least 50% miss a payment.  There are probably other reasons.

Huh?  I'm not sure opening a new line of credit automatically creates a ding on your credit score.

I used to worry about my credit score all the time, but not anymore. I'm sure the rich don't worry about a credit score. They give you credit, than when you use it, it lowers your score. Even if you pay it off the next month which is mind boggling to me.

Re: Anyway to avoid a ding on your credit score?

The credit rating system stinks, IMHO.  We always had 850, until we paid off house and cars, then it dived into the early 700's. It has gone up over 800.  But here is the deal, we pay offAmex off monthly. Although they option of extended pay,ents.  Are monthly balance is high, very high.  But it's paid off before due date. But I have bills, donations, all purchases, groceries, etc on that card. I have  three granddaughters using it for emergency   For some reason, although we pay off monthly , we are dinged for high credit usage. Even tho Amex is a chard card, not credit card.  I do not have a max limit on my American Express.  I can't seem to work it back up,again with credit bureau We haven't been late, missed payment in over 30 years, we aren't over extended.  Yet, my grandson who is 26 has credit rating of 850.  lol. I'm just sayin, it ain't fair   I think they ding us for not enough credit, they are always saying we need more credit. I don't need it.i do to Experion, and they do advertise credit cards offers, and it won't ding credit rating.  I don't need or want a card tho

I am not too happy with my husband right now. We bought a new king size mattress yesterday. We have the money to pay cash for it but for some reason my husband wanted to open a line of credit for that store and pay it out in 12 months with no interest. Why!? We will be paying the exact amount either way and opening up a new line of credit puts a ding on your credit score. We don't use credit cards anymore, only a debit card. Our credit score is well into the 800s. I don't see the logic of his decision and try to change his mind. Men!  They sometimes defy logic 🙄

@monicakm

i purchased a mattress recently and also did the same thing your husband did. i financed it for 12 months with no interest. why not? at my age i am not worried about a little "ding" on my credit report for opening a line of credit. i own my home outright, i own my cars,  i use credit cards, and i have money in the bank and investments. if its a good deal i go for it. i am not a MAN lol.

if i die with a credit score under 800 i will be fine with it. LOL

i dont really care either, but i will say that i  DO use my credit cards.

i own my cars and home, dont plan to ever move again unless absolutely necessary. i definitely dont worry about dings or a credit score below 800 as some people seem to do.

I just don't see any sense in financing something you have the money to pay for it outright.  And I was surprised he did it.  We think along the same lines about using credit.  Years ago when we did use credit for large purchases we never paid any interest.   I was just surprised by his decision to finance the purchase.
