Re: Anyone not doing anything for Thanksgiving?

@Sooner @Thanks for your kind words.  Life is so precious and brief....so I really try to be positive in the time I have.

At first I was doing nothing but changed my mind and will be going to my Goddaughter's home.  I am making a pound cake from scratch.  Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Re: Anyone not doing anything for Thanksgiving?

It's table for one at my house.  I was invited as I always am to spend time with my sister and neices and nephews.  I politely declined.  In past memories, after my dad died, I and my husband would always invite mom for dinner.  She always declined, but if I thought I could, I would press and she would say OK.  We always had a fun time, but now that I'm alone, I wonder if I should have left it at her first no.  If there was a reason she couldn't come, I would pack up lots of food and take it to her the next day, and we would visit then.  I guess I'm a little melancholy remembering the past.  Happy Thanksgiving.

Re: Anyone not doing anything for Thanksgiving?

I was invited to a big extended family dinner but my brother and SIL are hosting a smaller family dinner so I will be there with my stepdad, niece, and a few of SIL's family. It will be sad not having my mom there, she passed away last month but I think not celebrating would be worse and I'm sure she'd want us to. I'm not a fan of big gatherings so this will be a lot less stressful. I made an easy dessert to bring. I know this time of year isn't great for anyone so people should do their own things that make them happy. Hope everyone has a nice holiday.

I will be cooking for the 3 of us and sons girlfriend. I’m making a small turkey and a small ham. Several sides broccoli rice casserole, green bean casserole,  corn casserole, candied yams, mash potatoes, dressing, baked Mac and cheese with rolls. For desserts, I baked a pumpkin pie and a strawberry cake and purchased a lemon meringue pie from Luby’s. My favorite holiday to cook and bake.

@qvcfreak Well thank goodness you have almost an entire dessert for everyone!  That way you all won't STARVE after that megar meal you are fixing!  Woman Very Happy

I'd be sprawled on the sofa for days after that feast!  You'd better reinforce the table!  How wonderful!  You sound like my mom!  She used to cook like that!

Sending good wishes, happy Thanksgivings and Tums!  LOL!!!

Raising hand...it will be just me, the husband and the dog here alone and getting into trouble😜

We'll have a ham steak, scalloped potatoes and pecan cheesecake bars.  Maybe we'll take a drive if it's not raining.

Re: Anyone not doing anything for Thanksgiving?

So much has changed since last Thanksgiving.

When I lived in NY, I would "do" Thanksgiving (thank you Stop & Shop and Whole Foods and whoever) with my sister and her family and dad (after mom died).  Sometimes my aunt and cousin would be there.  After dinner, I would drive to another cousin's in Delaware and we would go midnight shopping with her SIL, niece and nephew.  It was fun - almost a party atmosphere and we would be out until early morning.  I very rarely bought anything, just went to watch.

In May dad passed away and now I live in DE.  So I will go to my cousin's.  I'm making Italian stuffing and roasted asparagus.  Then we will go shopping.

It will be strange without dad, and not being with my sister.  But life goes on ...

I do have to smile at those of you who are making Stove Top stuffing!  I worked for General Foods for 30 years and it's one of ours.  I can't believe people still use it!  Thank you!Woman Very Happy

Re: Anyone not doing anything for Thanksgiving?

@Jordan2  I'll be alone also, we had our family dinner Saturday due to Black Friday sales and people working retail.
Sorry your sister didn't invite you, I'm an only child and often glad!
But you will get to see your Mom, that's really nice!
