True Dat. Just this week on our news channel an investigative reporter took on the subject. Quite literally, there is nothing you can do to stop it. You can keep trying to block but they just spoof or use another number to call again.
He found out that there are businesses and organizations that hire people to make these calls from an office environment. They get a commission on how many successful calls they make.
Best thing to do is just not answer. Sounds easy, right. But my phone has been ringing off the hook this week and it's driving me nuts. Yesterday they started at 7 am and went until 7 pm.
have you tried Nomorerobo
It's not compatible with Xfinity.

Yesterday, I accidentally picked up a spam call...and it was "the lady from Social Security" (with the thick accent) wanting personal info from me.
@Desertdi yes the one from Social Security is the worse. They caught me twice because it said something about "Senior Services" so I picked up. The second time my response was something like I'm not a fool but SS has all my info so ask them. And that ended it.

Honestly, the best way to get rid of spam calls is to stop answering the landline! Don't waste money on another phone, just don't answer the one you have for any names or numbers you don't recognize.
With every call you answer, you are validating your phone number as "live and active", so your number will stay on that shared list as well as for robo calls.
I stopped answering unknown calls to our landline 12-15+ months ago. Yes, it was ringing constantly and the same numbers were showing up time and time again, calls from names and businesses I'd never heard of, from areas unfamiliar to me. I just let the phone ring, no one ever left a message, so I never gave it a second thought. After months of unanswered unknown caller, or calls from a certain town, on the landline, I began to receive calls identified as Call Research, which is trying to verify your number as active and likely to be answered by a human. Since those calls were never answered, my number is apparently no longer viewed as active, as my landline phone hasn't rung but twice this month and it was my brother.
The number of people who are most likely to call my landline are few. My immediate family and closest friends text or call my cell phone, and will leave a message if I don't answer. I intend to keep my landline for my convenience; not for nuisance calls, so the fix for stopping unwanted calls was to condition myself to stop answering the calls from unknown numbers!

@Luvitorleaveit1 wrote:@jackthebear - LOL it was so bad that I use to take the phone off the hook and put it back on after 9pm or when it rang I pick it up and hang up without a word. My husband would have a conversation with them and ask the person on the end so many questions that they would hang up (I guess he didn't have anything better to do).
@Luvitorleaveit1 you mean there are two of them? My husband did the same thing. Sometimes I even felt sorry for the caller. He would tell them that he had two birthdates and he celebrated both and he didn't know until at 17 he decided to join the Marines and found out there were two. Some would listen and some would hang up.

@RedTop - no more landline for me but yes if I don't recognize a incoming phone number I will not answer. There must be a spam school out there because before they would call from these odd area codes which was a red flag for me but now they use my area code, but I still do not answer.

My Android phone lets me know when it's a spam call but I also Google the number before blocking it.
Just recently my license plate some how disappeared and I had to call the non emergency number for the Police to report it. I was told that someone would call me back with a case number to give to the Tag Office to get a new plate and the number might say "unknown or private". Of course it came in twice as a spam call and when I googled it was the PD.

@Sage04 - lol they are brothers from different mothers. I feel sorry for the person on the other end too sometimes because they don't know what they're getting into.
My husband also will callback the number if they hang up and the number is out of service or something.

They are now using numbers that belong to private citizens who have no idea that this is happening. Google gives you the name of the person, the age and the address. Oh I also received a message saying that my number is involved in the spam calling. Guess I'm famous.
