I got one at church - pink, then one where we ate breakfast - white, and one at publix - coral.
I cut them short and put in a bud vase.

@151949 Would there be a reason for getting carnations?

I imagine they were intended for mothers on Mother's Day @Puzzle Piece.

We also received one at church. I let my mom have mine so she got two at church yesterday.

Didn't there used to be a significance to the color of flower one received (i.e. mother living or passed on)?

Yes, I believe a white one meant your mother had passed and a red one that she was living. At least that was the way it was when my mom was little at her church. She was always so sad to wear the color that her mother was gone, when all the other girls didn't. Her mother passed when she was born.

My church passed out pink only , though I noticed there were pink, red & white up on the alter.

Got a red rose at Ruth's Chris yesterday. Was a bit surprised that the women didn't get a carnation at church earlier. I also got nice bouquets from two of my children, candy from older daughter, and a nice phone call from younger son.
All in all a nice mother's Day for this mother of 4 and GrandMama of 7.

I got a carnation from a neighbor who doesn't speak English well so I thought that was particularly thoughtful that she made the nice gesture.I felt bad that I wasn't as thoughtful.I will have to think of something to do for her...maybe a couple of pineapples in a basket to say welcome.
