Yes, and often, but I rarely pay for it. I get upgrades based on being a Medallion and million miler on DL.
I do not think that paying for domestic first is worth it unless it's a flight longer than 4 hours. You can get the extra legroom and early boarding privilege a lot cheaper by purchasing a premium economy seat.
When I do purchase a first class ticket, it's because the flight is longer, or the coach fare is so high (as in a last minute trip) that first is only a few dollars more. If I'm going TATL or TPAC, I purchase business class.
Whatever you do, please don't believe any of the baloney you read or hear that if you tell the gate agent or ticket agent or flight attendant that it's your birthday/anniversary and ask really nicely you'll get moved up for free. That is very, very unlikely to happen. There's a strict protocol for how they process what frequent flyers call "battlefield upgrades" and they can't deviate from it.

It is very wonderful! The only thing about it I ever experienced that compared to coach was when I got stuck in front of a kid who kept kicking my seat. Fortunately, there were empty seats in first class and I was able to move.
It's especially nice if the flight is long. It's quieter, more comfortable, and more amenities.

Yes. You won't know until you try it. Give it a try.

When i was a child my brothers and I would fly alone frequently between family in Pa and family in Fl. In those days when children flew unaccompanied they always had to be in first class. I wonder what it is like now.

My sister and I flew a number of times unaccompanied and we were never seated in first class.

We do when we fly on long flights. My husband is 6'5 and if he has to sit in coach it's awful for him. It is expensive, but if you shop, you can find it somewhat discounted.
