A fat free diet is why Americans are obese or overweight. The craze for fat free only proved that it doesn't work......more than 2/3 of Americans are either overweight or obese.
And the latest research also proved that it is sugar NOT FAT that is the culprit for heart disease.
Exactly. There is study after study that shows that children and adults who eat low fat diets are actually the ones who are overweight and obese. Fat is essential for many body/brain functions. I just read a large study that involved children and it showed that the ones that ate fat actually ate less because fat makes you feel full longer.
Sidsmom, can I ask how many grams of fat you eat each day?

Irshgrl31201: When eating a whole foods, plant based diet, you don't really need to count calories or grams, but through experience, I'm @ my best anywhere from 10-15% of my total daily calories as fat grams. I eat a diet high in starches & greens...lots of potatoes! Cold baked potatoes w/ a little salt are my Power Bars/snacks! No oils, no avocados (rarely), lots of beans. Thanks for asking!

Thanks for answering, I didn't know if that was too much of a personal question so I appreciate you answering, you didn't have to. You don't eat any butter or oils at all? I eat a lot of veggies too. I do try to keep away from added sugars because of my Crohns and in my experience too much sugar really can wreck havoc with the immune system and the skin. I would actually love to give up meat because as I get older, I just have less and less of a desire to eat meat but unfortunately I need it because of my illness. Again, thank you for taking the time to answer!
Forgot to add, I also don't count calories or grams of any sort. I am actually trying to put on the 10lbs I lost from my bout with CDiff. It is hard to gain weight when you don't eat a lot of processed foods.

I believe I heard that fat free products are loaded with sugar...........Also, that eating too many starches (pastas, etc.) turns into types of sugars in our bodies. Kids shouldn't be eating only noodles, juices, too much fruit, etc. Especially the very young youngsters. An apple a day is fine, though. JMO
