Anyone else getting AOL Gold?

Got the email about the new AOL Gold.  My hiusband downloaded it but I did not on my account.  After the stated date my AOL stopped working.  Said my version of AOL has been discontinued.  Could not get my email or anything else.  Called AOL and got the runaround telling me to call several numbers.  Finally got on with someone after about two 30 minute waits. Let me tell you this new version is terrible.  Everything is slow to load.  Sometimes cannot get online.  I must shut down and start my computer again to sign on every day.  Have to expand emails to read.  Spell check does not work.  Copy and paste is hard to do.  Everything is slow, slow, slow.  It would cost me $4.99 a month for this service.

So after a few weeks of this we could not get online at all today.  Called AOL and they checked our computer out and told us there were several foreign contacts trying to I guess hack into our computer.  They suggested we contact this place to have them removed for $300.00!  Luckily our son is a computer wizz and got them deleted for us.  So we are going to drop AOL.  Not going to pay for all the trouble we are having with AOL Gold.

Our son thinks maybe AOL was selling some account names to make us pay for

AOL Gold now  They are making money and are providing terrible service and then want more money to fix it.  Don't fall for this.  I have some friends and family members who have not gotten a notice about AOL Gold and still have the old version.  Maybe they will get to them eventually.   Read reviews online about this new version and everyone is discussed with it.

Have had AOL forever.  Will have to learn with something else now but that is OK.  It will take time but it will be worth it.  Goodbye AOL.

Cancelled AOL Gold.  They gave us some of a hard time.  Said they are improving it and it should get better.  Well they should have done that before they offered it.  Told us eventually all AOL customers will get this message to upgrade to AOL Gold.

Re: Anyone else getting AOL Gold?

I still have AOL...only because hubby has a hard time using the computer and he was able to get around on AOL.I use Chrome and I am NOT buying AOL

You CAN keep your AOL email address according to the last email I received from AOL

If you choose not to update your software, you will still be able to keep your AOL email address and can visit mail.aol.com to access your email.

I have and use AOL also.  Didn't want to lose my business address. It's working fine.

Have a free AOL account from years ago that I use for 'junk' mail.  I use Chrome as my primary browser.

Re: Anyone else getting AOL Gold?

I have AOL --- old fashioned me.  I hate to change over... I do have Comcast.  If there is going to be a problem I will just slowly tell the world that I am using my Comcast account.  I am a creature of habit and prefer just to keep it.  Even Hubby uses his Comcast and has abandoned his Aol account.

Just curious.... what is the best way to just switch over.... Tell everyone, oh gosh, that I am using Comcast only.  What a task!

Had no idea that AOL was still around.  It was awful when it first started.  Sounds like nothing has changed.

You don't need to pay for AOL anymore.  It's FREE. Both my father and I switched to the free version many years ago.  He still uses the AOL software (not sure which older version) to get his email because that's what he's accustomed to (even though I try to get him to use the web browsers for other things).  And I've been using the AOL dot com web page to access my email for many years too.  When we switched over, we both kept our original email addresses that we had created in the early 90's!

Re: Anyone else getting AOL Gold?

I was used to AOL too but since we cancelled I now use Google Chrome and I am getting used to it.  Still have an email account with AOL and also a gmail account now.  Did not know you could still have an AOL email account so I don't have to notify everyone about a new email address.  You can import all your email and favorites to Google Chrome too.  My son did it so I am not sure how it is done.  Can also get the AOl news and it is all free.  I really don't know what you pay for anyway when you can still get want you want for free.  It is a little different email format but not hard to get used to.

Aol.com is a website just like any other.  Just enter the address into your browser and log into your email account from there, the same as you'd do for QVC or any other site.

I've never used the Aol browser.  My DH did and he hates the fact that he now has to access his email this "new" way; personally, I hated the fact that he used the Aol browser.  Caused problems more than once that I had to fix.

Since we had no intention of paying for it, it's gone!  However, most of our business emails come into Aol so we just log into the website for free.

(ETA:  There's nothing wrong with anyone preferring to use Aol.  It was one of the first of its kind and very successful.  Just because it's "old", doesn't make it bad.)
