Re: Anyone doing something different for Thanksgiving?

I was in charge of all holiday meals for my dad after my mom passed in 1988. My dad passed two years ago, and the last two years I have thoroughly enjoyed making dinner, a simple dinner, for myself, curling up on the couch and watching football with my Doodle. I have a brother in the area and decided to invite him for a very simple dinner, glass of wine, and football this year. He isn't in the best of health, and I want him to enjoy another Thanksgiving.

Hey gidget!   Long time no see.....I didn't realize you modified your nic.  Sorry you had a tough year, but it seems that you have a few nice options to enjoy a nice Thanksgiving.  Enjoy!

I too, had a tough year......Breast Cancer Survivor.....mom with dementia and some other family issues that I'd rather not discuss here.

The good news is, I'm going to become a grandmother in February!!!  I am sooooo excited!  This will be my first and the parents (my son and his GF) have decided not to know the babies sex.  This makes it extra exciting for me.

So, this year my mom, youngest son and myself will be celebrating Thanksgiving with my son's GF's family!   This will be a first and I'm really looking forward to it.   I have already me the other grandmother, but I will be meeting some other close relatives.

Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving despite the challenges had this year!  Woman Happy

Re: Anyone doing something different for Thanksgiving?

This passed month have been stressful . Two loved ones passed. So my son and family and I are going out to dinner. No muss no fuss. Does not matter where we go or what we do as long as we are all together. That's the most important thing.

We have decided on a plan, with a few contingencies. I went to assisted living and asked my father if he wanted to try Golden Corral. He actually can walk well without his walker, but he's supposed to use it. His first comment was that it would be too difficult with the walker.

So.....plan A is to go to Waffle House. He absolutely loves Waffle House and hasn't been since early August.

if that's too crowded, we'll try Boston Market, which is also close by.

If that's too crowded, then I'll make a homemade pizza. I'll have pumpkin pie here for my husband and father for dessert.

Its never about the meal for me. I don't care for cooking and I've been on an endless diet and have retrained myself on how I look at and treat food.

I'm thrilled that my family will all be together on Wednesday and am equally as happy that we've found something for Thanksgiving Day.

I'm beyond thankful that my husband is doing so well after having cancer earlier this year AND that my father survived his stroke and is expected to make a full recovery, albeit slow.  That's my Thanksgiving.  I couldn't care less about the food.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Re: Anyone doing something different for Thanksgiving?

We go to a local homeless shelter to serve Thanksgiving Day lunch.  Later my family which consists of my husband, niece and family and her mil will have the traditional dinner.
