I've used Uber quite a bit since I got rid of the car.  I do take the  bus for most of my travel in town.  My sister has had a few accidents that have required using a car for the doctor's offices weren't on a bus line.  After a taxi took a round about way and charged over 40$ I tried Uber.  Same ride for 20$.  Lately I've used Uber since she broke her kneecap and can't bus it to the doctor.  The last time the Uber driver practically carried her to the door.  He was such a sweetie.

I plan on trying the bus, @scruffsmom but it is a bit of a hike to get to the bus stop and my husband has slowed down considerably.  I think Uber might work better.  What a nice Uber driver your sister encountered.

Wasting too much electricity ?, imo.

Well, this I know for sure:  If I ever want to use one, it will be here in one or two minutes !

I use Uber and Lyft and I have for many years. Now I use Uber because it's so much cheaper where I live. Lyft used to be cheaper.

@tansy I live in a small town too and I don't have problems getting rides. But the town is also near a city, and the city has a university. So that makes more drivers available.

If you're worried about getting stranded you can reserve a ride in advance, but those rides are more expensive.

I actually used Uber today for the first time. I had to return my work car to the office and I took Uber home. It was OK, the process was easy with the App. I was not fond of my driver, the did not talk but the thing I really did not like was the car smelled like stale smoke. I would use them again if I have to.

I'm in a small town too. I don't know if there are any Uber drivers around here or not. My husband is my Uber driver 😉  He's been driving me since my knee surgeries. I've had to get back behind the wheel since he's been in the hospital and that includes driving at night in the city. These last 10 days have been a stark reminder of how much he takes care of me and does for me 😟

Unfortunately, I am my husband's driver, @monicakm.  I know there are UBERS here, just not sure if there are enough.  Cataract surgery has improved my night driving but I still avoid it as much as possible.  I hope your husband recovers fast.

When I moved to PA, I started to use Uber. My car didn't arrive in PA from the west coast for 18 days.

I used Uber to get to a hotel, to my house from the airport (had my small dog in a carrier), to the post office, home from a holiday party, etc. I live in a small town. Never had a problem.

@tansy  I think it's a great backup.

After I used Uber, my sibling decided to download the app too.
