I will admit, that I have come to rely heavily on my debit card. I use it all the time. However, I just got a telephone call from my bank's fraud department and for about the fourth time, between my card and DH's card, someone lifted my number and fraudulent charges were made against my bank account.
The last time this happened, I took the overdraft protection off my checking account so that nothing can clear if the money isn't there. Because of that 5 of the attempted charges were denied but 2 went through, one fairly large. Because they are only pending right now, the bank can't do anything. They have filled out the paperwork and as soon as the money is officially withdrawn from my account, they will call me to sign the paperwork and will immediately reverse the charges.
When I spoke to the bank they told me that they have cancelled my debit card so no further charges can hit but they will issue me a new one when I come in. I have decided that I am not going to get a new debit card. I'm done.
I am going back to the old fashioned way of cash only or checks. This is going to be quite an adjustment but I am not going to deal with this hassle anymore.
