Now that news reports are confirming it was a missile fired by one of our submarines that is comforting news but I have to say it is an outstanding picture . . . thanks for posting this Noel!

At first thought I thought: Funny looking meteorite/ (meteor?) or comet, with that pointed cone and all...............Then early morning I heard the news. BTW, Noel's photo is outstanding.

p.s. Someone on the radio last night thought it might be 'you know who' (C) testing a missle. They said that they did do that years ago. But, could be a rumor, so don't quote. .........................p.s. Good to know that we have our folks out there working hard to protect us! ![]()

Hi mtc!
I didn't want to take any guesses last night, but I thought it was a missle because of the trajectory. Meteors come down or across, right? That sure looks as if it's on an upward path to me.

Hi ROMARY!
I can't take credit for the photos, they were on my Twitter account and I just copied a couple of them to show what was going on in the land of the midnight sky ![]()

Due to the drought we water and add water to the pool at sundown or later. It was about six fifteen and dark when mr henny was sitting by the pool overlooking the ocean and saw what he thought was a plane coming to the coast. As it approached he realized it was a missle and came running up to the house to get me.
We went back outside and watched it. We see the launches from Vandenburg AFB all the time sent out to sea. This, however was coming to the coast. Then it looked like it blew apart and became green. It was really creepy. All immediate reports were denial of all military activity.
Just heard this morning that LAX traffic will be routed over land instead of the ocean as there will be more testing.

henny,
Thanks so much for your firsthand observation!
DD caught it first on Twitter and notified me. People were freaking out a bit online.
I did not think the claims of a meteor shower were valid, not with the way that thing traveled.

If it was headed toward the coastline, think they made a mistake, and then neutralized it mid-air? Very glad there are preventative capabilities in place. ![]()

That pointed nose-cone was a give-away. Took me a long while to figure it out, though.
