Ladies,
My BF is also job hunting, and he's been looking since June. He was tired of his full time job (good pay, benefits) and quit without having a new one lined up.
Unemployment has definitely gotten old!
Without knowing your special set of skills/education, here are some ideas.
1) get (or update) a profile on Linkedin.com
2) register for a placement agency in your field (or use a headhunter)
3) look outside the box- schools and universities are great places to work, especially for administrative assistants.

4) if you have Facebook or Twitter, get the word out that you're looking for jobs.
5) if you have some down time and you enjoy animals, there is money to be made as a pet sitter/dog walker and you will get more clients through word of mouth
6) also, if you have any special talents, like photography, you might see if a local real estate company could use your help taking pictures of the properties as they come onto the market. There's always work to be done with pictures!
