Another Zoo Vandalism: NYC

[ Edited ]

Flaco, Eurasian owl, was set free by vandals at the Central Park Zoo yesterday.  The cage had been cut open.

A police officer  guards Flaco while zoo keepers attempt a recovery.  As of this morning,  the owl was spotted in a tree near Central Park, but has not yet been retrieved.

I can't even imagine what these robbers are thinking.

Being "just let out" could be so dangerous for the animals, and in some cases, people.

So sad I hope the owl gets recovered......

"Thinking" is giving them way too much credit.

Just heard on the noon news that the owl is still within sight of officials, having flown to another tree in the park.

I hope he can be retrieved and brought back.   Especially in this frigid cold ,  the poor thing.   I don't  get how these jerks ,  not the word I'd like to use ,  but for here it will do .  I don't see how they are able to do this isn't there any security at all 🤨. If not maybe they should get some it seems 😾

Is this a country wide thing? I thought it was happening in TX and CA too.

They caught that idiot in Texas who stole the tamarin monkeys.  I hope that they are able to catch Flaco and bring him back safely too.  Honestly, I can't say what I really want to say here about this. I guess now all zoos will need to really upgrade their security.  Crazy world!

As of this morning Flaco is still hanging out around 59th Street.

Park rangers have left food but report that he hasn't left the tree to touch it.

Experts worry that he has lost skills to feed on his own, having been in captivity for so many years.

@AuntG It sseems to me that one idiot criminal does it and the press publicizes it, so copycats decide it's a good idea. Plenty of them standing around these days waiting for their moment in the spotlight.
