I just got that same text for the second time today. Unbelievable. Checked my account again and it's fine. Ugh.

@jlkz I got one of those e-mails from my cousin asking for $300 for an Amazon gift card for something. It looked legit, but I know my cousin would never ask for money. She doesn't need to.
So, I called her. Apparently someone got into her e-mail list that was loaded with family members because she coordinates the family reunions and sent a money request to everyone in the list.
I was ticked off that she didn't send out an e-mail to everyone explaining what happened. I don't know if anyone fell for it, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did.
I agree this scam looked legit. When someone gets access to your e-mail list, they can do some damage.

Just as you were annoyed that your cousin didn't send word to the names of her list, I felt exactly the same way. When I suggested she said out a master message, she seemed to blow it off. Not what I would expect of her.
Guess our standards were quite different !

Gift Cards is one of the biggest scams. Any time someone asks you to send gift cards that should be a red flag. I received a call saying that I had a delinquent bill and needed to call immediately. I knew that was a scam. I had invoices sent to me that an item was purchased showing the amount..At first, it does appear plausible but I never bought anything.
I always check my bank or credit card to make sure nothing has transpired. It is sad how many people lose money thinking it is legitimate. Scammers are highly intelligent crooks with no conscious. You always need to be one step ahead.

I hate scammers

Several years ago someone got into my email list and the first thing I did was send an email alert to everyone on it to warn them. I made it clear that anything "suspicious" was not from me.
And recently, I've had to laugh - I actually get emails from scammers, but the idiots put my name in the "From" line. So, I'm sending a scam email to myself??? ![]()
I always, always, always hover over the sender's email address (even if it appears to be from a legit source). With scammers, usually it's a long string of gobbledygook, not remotely like what you see in the email header. I use the "block senders" option, which deletes and blocks the sender.
The scumbags are out there, working overtime.

@jlkz - That's too bad the sender didn't care one bit about warning others. smh.
