Perhaps there is a financial benefit for Lisa to live there. No taxes?
Why live there when there are so many other safe, beautiful places to live? I believe the cost of living is 20% higher than US. So, why live there? Island life forever? Vacation is great but, not forever.

I would not stop traveling to such BEAUTIFUL places, as the majority of travelers are not affected by serious crime there. If you research the areas FIRST along with current crime stats which can be found on the internet, and travel in groups you are relatively safe; though anything can happen anywhere! Be mindful of your surroundings and NEVER let your guard down! I know it seems obvious, but many people do not practice these simple tips when traveling simply because they are not aware..😊
I do not know any specifics about this unique heartbreaking story and feel just AWFUL for this young lady's family AND friends!❤ My heartlfelt thoughts and prayers for her safety are with them, and I hope answers are FORTHCOMING!! I cannot imagine the anguish they are going through!🙏🤞💝

20 years ago next month we went to the Bahamas on our honeymoon. Not impressed. Would never go back and sounds like that's a good thing with the missing Americans down there.

One of my sons takes his family to the Bahamas every summer and the other son takes his to Mexico. We worry the whole time they are away.

30 years ago we went to Acapulco. The resort said do not leave the premises. It was beautiful there, but off the premises, my partner said at that time that it reminded him of Vietnam. We then went to Puerto vuerto and it was also beautiful there. We did not get the same warning there. I probably won't go back to the Caribbean or Mexico at this point. Enough beautiful beaches in the US for me. Just my opinion.

I've traveled there often but it has gotten seedy. There casinos
And drugs, but it's the gangs that have taken over. It's been said the trafficking
Is active .
I don't have a good feeling on this. Agree, far too many remote area where you're never seen or noticed.

'Where in the heck' are the Bahamas and are they in the path of the latest hurricane?
I Google searched, and only see maps of the path moving toward various small islands, but no mention of 'the Bahamas'.

@haddon9 wrote:I've only been there once....we honeymooned in 1982 on Paradise Island. It was before some of the huge resorts came in and it really was like a paradise.
Plus the water was such an amazing clear turquoise! It's so beautiful!....at least it was but I have no idea today.
I always wanted to go back but we just never did.
today. However, I have no desire to go anywhere where crime has gone up significantly.
We also spent our honeymoon on paradise Island and it was beautiful! This was in 1981. There were not hoards of people there, beaches and pools not crowded. We rode scooters around Nassau. We were amazed at the poverty we saw as we traveled out of the resort areas in Nassau. The food was good ,beaches were clean ,water was clear and beautiful. We had a great time!

Stray: Thank you!
I couldn't find a map showing Barbados in near or far relation to the hurricane path.
Thank you very much for the explanation.
