Re: Another American beheaded by ISIS

Most people really don't understand the issue with our border with Mexico, and unless you are there you cannot begin to realize what goes on - be it drug running, s*x trade, or even persons h*ll bent on destroying this country.

We've let too much go on for too long; and yes, it takes YEARS to set up tragedies such as 9/11. That didn't happen overnight.

Sleeper cells in the USA? You bet there are. And as Gato said earlier - there will be another horror in this country that 9/11 will pale in comaprison.

And yes, we know that what we see as far as killings that most victims RIGHT NOW are Muslim. But wookie also said it - it's about governing the world.

Re: Another American beheaded by ISIS

I believe (in my very under educated opinion) that they use religion (and they aren't the first) to rationalize their desire to rule the world.

Wrong is still wrong just because you benefited from it.

Re: Another American beheaded by ISIS

I do not believe ISIS is going to infiltrate our country. They may have big ideas, but they need to be backed with money. They're a band of thugs and someone is financing them (ransom for example), but they will only be able to exist in countries with weak or floundering governments and infrastructure. The USA is neither.

They killed many of their fellow believers on tape too.

As sad, tragic and horrible as their actions are - they shouldn't be used to goad us back into war.

terrier~please explain. I saw a large group (of Syrians) being led, I supposed to their deaths. So they were Syrian soldiers and were followers and were still killed?

Islam, like Christianity, has different groups. In Islam the main difference is between Sunni and Shia and they frequently are at war. It's really no different than persecution of Catholics by Cromwell or Protestants in the Inquisition. People have used religion as an excuse to kill each other for millennia.

Isn't it a shame that religions have been bastardized by the fundamentalists? They are the cause of the majority of terror and suffering since the beginning of recorded history. This "my God/religion/way of worship is the truth and yours is false" is more dangerous than nuclear bombs, IMO.

ITA. Islam is a beautiful religion...shameful many people don't look beyond the crazies that scream the loudest. Christianity far outweighs the evil in reglious wars throughout the yrs. Unfortunatley 6 Million Jews, and their extended generations, aren't here to remind us of this fact. Evil people are all around us...and they will continue to do evil things no matter if war is declared or not. Yes, this beheading is news-worthy, but we have a lot more deadly evil among us to take care of...

I look at ISIS like the Westboro Baptist Church if they were able to recruit enough people and weapons to start a war. These are radicals, period. They are not Christians, Muslims or Jews, religions in which the majority live their lives as peaceful, loving humans.

Who do you think we need to take care of as far as evil, deadly sources?

They don't need boots on the ground here to take down this country.

Whether it's an all out war on our soil isn't the point. The point is that we are not as isolated and protected as we once were.

When the Crusaders worked their way from Europe over to the Middle East on their way to "take back" Jerusalem, the Muslims were aghast at their ferocity. The Crusaders were beheading, putting heads on spikes, burning and looting, killing men, women and children. This is what happens when zealotry takes over the mind.

The Crusaders were told they were fighting for a religious ideal, for God Himself, but in fact the goal was domination of lands, kingdoms, power, and wealth. What we have now is the dreadful familiar.

Exactly what folks are reading and hearing about ISIS. No different, just different kind of zealotry for modern times.

ETA: The Inquisition is another example of a "religious" pogrom to rid the world of heretics when the real reason was absolute, unquestioning political and religious control of Europe by the church.
