I guess I don't know why many in captivity convert to their religion. I would think their thinking would be it would save their life.
I really don't understand this to be honest.

As sad, tragic and horrible as their actions are - they shouldn't be used to goad us back into war.
terrier~please explain. I saw a large group (of Syrians) being led, I supposed to their deaths. So they were Syrian soldiers and were followers and were still killed?
Yes. They were believers of the faith and were still killed.

No easy answer to this. Go back to war? Okay who is going to fight, the same overtaxed military full of volunteers? Call a draft? Who is going to pay for all this again? USA and England? Again.

When the path is chosen to ignore what has been happening for months and doing nothing about it? These are the unfortunate and deadly results of how "reaction" compares to "pro action". To ignore what was happening while hoping it would go away? At many points pro action could have made a big difference, we are now seeing the results of choosing reaction and it's consequences to these Americans.
Will leave it at that.

I had not heard of this latest beheading, but I remember CNN showing a photo a few weeks ago of a young man who they said would be the next one. I can't even imagine how heart rending this must be for the families, and how terrifying for those whose family members are still in captivity.

Islam, like Christianity, has different groups. In Islam the main difference is between Sunni and Shia and they frequently are at war. It's really no different than persecution of Catholics by Cromwell or Protestants in the Inquisition. People have used religion as an excuse to kill each other for millennia.

^^^. ISIS wants our soldiers back on the ground.

So would the best thing be to totally pull out of the ME? Including humanitarian efforts? That way there would be no way an American could be kidnapped. Seems the only way.
