Always keep seat belts on until the plane has safely stopped.
Wishing complete recoveries for the injured.

not quite a disaster compared to the others

It was certainly a disaster to the 80 people who endured it. And to their loved ones. Talk about PTSD!
I heard that the G-force seatbelts and skilled crew saved lives. Quite remarkable and fortunate that all survived.

Yeah, this one surprised me
Blessings that it was not worse and all accounted for and safe
Not sure how a plane lands upside down
But its intact and that's the goal

The video we have of the crash isn't the greatest, but there are two ways a plane could end up upside down like that. The first would be the plane somehow turning sideways upon landing. (Wind gust, patch of ice, etc.) Landing gear isn't made to go sideways and one side of the gear could have collapsed causing a wing to dig into the ground and roll the plane over ripping off a wing or two in the process. It's a relatively gentle way to crash a plane if you're going to crash a plane.
The other option would be an inversion where the nose went more or less straight up and rolled over, like a human somersault. That probably would have been more violent and would have likely broken the plane in half when the nose landed again. If you ignore the torn-off wing and the fact that the plane is upside down, it looks to be in pretty good shape. The relatively few injuries also imply it was a fairly gentle crash. It could have still been an inversion with the wing taking the brunt of the impact with the ground after the flip, but my gut says it was more likely a roll than an inversion. Pretty exciting for those on board no matter what.

I've seen the video that was shot from the cockpit of the aircraft holding short of the runway.
Ooooffff. They were way fast, didn't flare, slammed hard collapsing the right main gear, and that dragged the wing on the ground. Wing ripped off, over they went and then the tail came off.
It's a miracle that everyone got out. Even more so since those dumb-dumbs stopped to retrieve their carry on bags! In another video, I saw 2 people pullling their roller boards along beside them, others with duffles and backpacks. You can clearly hear the flight attendants yelling at them to leave it, but nope, they had to slow everyone down to fetch their stuff. Idiots.
I saw a news blurb this morning that said 21 passengers were transported to hospitals, but as of this morning, 19 have been discharged.

Many think that the FAA is just air traffic controllers, but that's not the case.
It oversees pilot certification and testing, compilation and publication of a variety of air traffic statistics and data and a huge Bureau devoted to airport oversight, design and construction review/analysis, grants to airports and approval of all airline flight originations and destinations.
Lots going on for 45,000 employees beyond air traffic control. Likely lots of room for cuts that the public wouldn't notice.
As noted, no controllers are involved in layoffs and new hirings are occurring.
