Re: Anniversary vacation ideas needed....

I live in the Southeast.  We've been to Savannah...it's very nice.  Savannah is close to Hilton Head.  You can take a boat shuttle and be there in no time.  Heard good things about Charleston, SC.  That's on our to do list.  There's also the Biltmore Estate in NC, Ashville, I think.  Just because it's October,  doesn't mean it's cooled down here.  When we went to Savannah it was October and it was hot...I mean hot.  We walked about 3 blocks to a restaurant one evening and by the time we got there, my head was dripping with sweat.  If you want cooler weather, head North to see the beautiful foilage in Vermont.  My wedding anniversary is in October too.  This year is our 20th.  Happy Anniversary to you both.  Have a great time wherever you decide to go.

Im not quite sure when Real ID is required to fly domestically, but that might be a consideration for your mode of travel in October. 😊

Get a taste of the Old West and come to Colorado. Take a ride on the narrow gauge train through parts of some of the most beautiful parts of Colorado. There's a dining car, too. Book soon to get a ride. Reservations fill quickly and early in the year.

Silverton & Durango Train Colorado

Then near Durango you can visit Mesa Verde National Park and tour the cliff dwellings there.

Colonial Williamsburg, VA.  Been there a couple of times.  Want to go back.  Great place!!

AND Amtrak goes there!!

Yes!  If you love history that's the place.  And go tour Monticello for sure.  It's a lovely area, you can walk around the village, eat, learn on the tours available, shop, just relax and enjoy, very nice.

Stay in one of their hotels or inns if you can.  We loved going there and have been many times.  It is lovely in all seasons.

Charleston is one of our favorite places too, but it is harder to soak it all in if you don't have time and aren't staying down near the battery.  If you go, Edmondston Alston house, Nathaniel Russell house are musts to tour. And the Market isn't worth time, it's just shops for tourists.

Eat in local restaurants--stay away from the chains around the market.  You can eat at them elsewhere.

Savannah not so much.  There is not nearly as much to see and do there as the two above.
