@Jk9 wrote:Interesting that you bring this up @On It . Saturday morning I mentioned to my husband that our woods were very silent in the morning. That is really unusual as we live back in the woods and hear a lot of bird activity in the mornings. No crow sounds, no woodpeckers or song birds were vocalizing. Very strange through this morning. Also noticed the hummers weren't active and only saw a couple all weekend. Tonight we have a severe thunderstorm with lots of lightning and noise. Just started pouring rain.
Years ago I had a sweet cockapoo named Mitzii.
Three times, about an hour or two before we had an earthquake, Mitzii crawled deep under my bed and wouldn't come out, until after the earthquake hit.
I've also had other friends say their pets acted "different" before earthquakes.

@luvmybeetle wrote:@jlkz Oh my gosh that is so sad and yet so wonderful. It's as if he was saying goodbye to you. God bless you for giving him that love. OK I'm crying now.
Every time I think about him and some of his antics, tears aren't too far away. DH feels the same way.

Really, animals have to have a intuitive sense, their lives depend on it.

Animal instincts have always amazed me. I have always wondered why my dog would start shaking and could sense a storm coming way before the rain or thunder starts. thanks for starting this thread @On It

😸 🐈🐈🐈🐈 ......
At this moment, we are housing a "stray" female who adopted us, along with her four new kittens. Her daughter from her previous litter, along with the "daddy" are also with us, currently occupying the back enclosed porch. We had an area ready for her, and two days before the kittens were born, she came in and never left.
Speaking of instincts, it is so amazing to watch her feed and nurture her kittens without any instruction. And the interaction among the family is so heartwarming.
If only we humans could be so smart and sensible!

I live in a rural area and there's little traffic here in the early morning....the time the garbage truck usually comes...
My Little cat ( of two..the other is Bigger) can sense when that truck is, I swear, a half mile up the road.I can't hear it. But she whips her head up toward the direction, her eyes get big and black with fear, then she slinks away with her belly on the carpet to under the bed in the far end of the house. This is not outside, it's inside, in all weather ( even when the windows are closed).
The garbage truck is here within ten minutes.
Maybe she can feel the earth shake( it's a big heavy duty truck) or the sound of the air brakes as it's stopping way up the road...but it's FAR up the road cause I can't hear it at all.
The snowplow makes her lose her mind too....also when it's still way up the road too far for me to hear.....
Oddly enough, thunder doesn't scare her!
She's also deathly afraid of the vacuum. If she hears me even grab the handle to move it out of the way, not even turning it on ( it's in my spare "junk" room) she flies, in terror, down the hall to the farthest away she can get...
Animals know what to fear way ahead of humans I think.

While things seem out of sync I will now announce we have ducks. There are 8 of them swimming in the rainwater pond/catchment area across the street. No elk, no horses, just ducks!
We had little rain the past two months and are far behind normals amounts. The water area has been dry. It overfilled from yesterday's downpour. We have no idea how they found us or their point of origin. (They are brown if that gives a clue.)
