I haven't noticed anything really different, but I do believe animals have a sixth sense.
DH and I talk about it frequently. He has always told me I give animals human characteristics. Of course I do.
My kitties know when I'm upset. If I'm watching TV and our Tonk goes through my legs and under the couch, I know it is about to storm. The skies will be clear, but they won't be for long. His batting average is 100%!

I really appreciate this post. I love the story of the elephants and do believe they scensed the man died. I've read a few stories about elephants like that. I know when I'm feeling depressed or upset one of my cats will come up to my bedroom and lay down with me like he knows what's up. He cuddles up to me real close.
Please people put out some more posts about animals like this.

A slightly different twist to animals "knowing:"
A few years ago we had a mountain place and I used mitts to groom the fur of the golden retriever next door whenever he came to say hello.
He never came up onto the deck even though there was no gate. One day DH called me over to the sliding doors to the deck off the kitchen. There was the retriever looking in the slider as though he was searching for me.
I got the mitts, brushed him, rubbed his belly and he gave me his paw before he went back home.
It was his goodbye: he passed later on that week after we left for home. Toby left his paw prints on my heart....

If I'm "nervous"....YOU should make sure the doors are locked.

@jlkz Oh my gosh that is so sad and yet so wonderful. It's as if he was saying goodbye to you. God bless you for giving him that love. OK I'm crying now.

Another unusual sight. This mother and her foal have been here all day separated from the herd. They have abundant grass and water.

How did they know he had passed? No one told them, but they came. There are studies underway to determine if on some level animals are in tune with nature's events.
Two weeks ago our wildlife started displaying odd behavior. Most of the hummingbirds left a month early. A strange herd of horses moved into our neighbor for a couple of days. The elk with babies have moved up the mountain. The single ladies are still here.
Maybe it is the lack of rain, the above normal temperature, or an early winter. The young lady at Starbucks asked us if we noticed odd behavior. She mentioned the early departure of the hummingbirds. I guess we still see if it sorts itself out.
Has anyone in other parts of the country noticed a change in animal behavior?

A "giant" CROW has moved into my yard. It occupies the whole bird bath. I tried to identify the habitat of this creature (on the net)...and it seems to be a native of JAPAN.

@On It and @Tinkrbl44- I didn't know this. Maybe that's where the expression we've all heard from childhood came from.

Interesting that you bring this up @On It . Saturday morning I mentioned to my husband that our woods were very silent in the morning. That is really unusual as we live back in the woods and hear a lot of bird activity in the mornings. No crow sounds, no woodpeckers or song birds were vocalizing. Very strange through this morning. Also noticed the hummers weren't active and only saw a couple all weekend. Tonight we have a severe thunderstorm with lots of lightning and noise. Just started pouring rain.
