BYW, the National Geographic has published a new magazine on race with the claim that race is just a construct.

The cover freatures a set of twin girls with a white mother and a black father.  One girl appears to be white, the other girl appears to be black.  Beautiful girls.

@Noel7 it's quite fascinating isn't it? On another DNA thread I shared my results and I wanted to add that it's quite common for African Americans to have such a mixture.

Both grandmothers were darker skinned and grandfathers lighter skinned with one appearing to be Caucasian. So I can understand sibling's results different from one another.

Hi my friend 😊 @JaneMarple

The ideas on race are changing rapidly, especially now that we know all of our first mothers were African and we can chart where they came from in Africa.

I was tracing my ancestry online. There was a female listed with a J after her name. I didn't have any footnotes that indicted what the J stood for. I wonder if it was Jamaican or Jewish?

Does anyone have any idea. I think she might have been a servant

A lot of older records identified Jews, i am guessing that was it. I think it was common not to identify where black people came from.  That is why so many African Americans have no idea where their home country is.  Thankfully, technology is catching up to pinpoint specific regions in Africa.

Well, their father could have children out there that even HE doesn't know about so they could indeed have unknown siblings.  There's also all those college guys who donate sperm for cash; their kids definitely have siblings that no one know about.

OMG - something else for me to worry about.  LOL   Your scenario never occurred to me.  I think I might be sorry I started the whole thing.

Well, if I never come back to this thread with the final results, I guess everybody will know why.  To be continued.............. (maybe)

@sophiamarie  Ancestry contacted me via email.  They let me know when they received the sample.  After that, it took about 8 weeks to get the results.

@cotton4me  So far, I have received nothing via e-mail.  When you got the results 8 weeks later, was it by e-mail also??

@sophiamarie  Yes, all communications were by email.  Did you log onto Ancestry to activate your kit before you sent it?  You should be able to log into Ancestry to see the status of your DNA sample.

@cotton4me   I don't believe I did but I will log into Ancestry now to see if anything shows up.  Will let you know.  Thanks heaps.
