I attended a 9/11 memorial event in a neighboring town this morning. It featured a presentation from the granddaughter of a victim of the attack ten years ago. She said that her grandfather lingered a week after the attack in a hospital. She was able to speak with him before he passed, and her speech was centered on this discussion. She said that her grandfather encouraged her not to be sad about the attack, but to remember that Americans have always moved forward from the ashes to make the country a better place. She said that her grandfather would not want today to be a day of sadness and tears, but a day to build a brighter future for those left to carry on. It was such a positive message, and actually put smiles on those in attendance.

I feel fortunate to have been invited to this ceremony today. It gave me hope that the memory of the 9/11 attack will be one of the strength and resilliance of Americans, and that we will use the memory to build a united and productive future.
