Ampicillan

Could any of you nurses (or anyone else) out there tell me why I'm supposed to drink a full glass of water when I take the ampicillin? And at least 1 hour before eating and 2 hours after eating...

It is to help the medication dissolve and be absorbed into the system, without interference from foods already in the stomach. Drinks such as orange juice and soda, affect the medication before it ever reaches the stomach. If this medication isn't taken exactly as directed, it is not as effective.
